- Cranker 0.40 should fix the diskdrive motor issue once and for all, no need for poking to hardware registers:

I'm only waiting to hearing back from Bonefish for an updated
Mac OS X version. - isokadded on the 2016-11-06 07:50:18

- The hyperactive support crew is at it again with a hotfix for turning the motors off in Cranker:

- @elkmoose: Thank you for putting out an update! We fixed the launcher to run Shrinkler-crunched executables directly, without the run-command. Zymosis should work now. What the issue is with Lion Sleeps tonight I don't know, but if it fails to run, try it again. For future prods: Consider keeping an uncrunched executable handy (for packdisks) or give Cranker a try for crunching!

- @break: Screenmode is dynhires interlace, 16 colors of which 14 can be changed in the hblank. Color 0 is left black and some pictures have 1 or 2 fixed colors for aesthetic reasons. I do not calculate 14 fresh colors each line, but constantly reuse a K-Means' state. Input is a density function over line histograms with current line in the center. The K-Means is enhanced with motility/inertia factors per cluster, which are updated/fed-back from the number of pixels represented by them, so clusters have strong tendency to change little, sort themselves by popularity and into the same palette indices. So I get tightly packed line palettes (often only a handful minimal changes per line), and after render/dithering, 4 bit color indices. As Blueberry suggested, the color indices then undergo Move-to-Front transformation before entropy encoding. This idea saved the project 1 week before Deadline, but luckily we also had a canonical encoder and fast 68k Huffman decoder lying around, and MTF transformation is no big deal with only 2.7 bits per pixel on average. (The first picture is unpacked for getting the show up as quickly as possible, this drags down average compression.) The sync is factored around almost constant decrunching, the exact images and order were given by the art department. The music is a regular PT mod.

- Now on Aminet too:

There seems to be a cruncher week at aminet: DefPack, MaxPak, OmegaPacker, Cranker... hot, hot, hot! - isokadded on the 2016-09-08 07:17:18

- Ok, the download link now points to the current version 0.3.
Changes: Raw data decruncher included, one of the fastest decrunchers for 68000. Minor bugfix in decrunch header. Added Amiga-style commandline parsing, new options CDATA, DDATA, MAXOVH, MERGE. Removed former hardcoded limit of 64 bytes maximum overhead. Full sourcecode release. I guess a Mac OS X version is underway, too, I didn't hear back from Bonefish yet. - isokadded on the 2016-09-07 12:46:43

- Most issues have been worked on, and the scope has been extended.

Changes:
Added options for displaying text and to avoid poking to the bgcolor register. Incompressible hunks are being stored now. The source of the
decrunch header is now included and a custom header can be specified in the command line. This way you can use Cranker as a loader system, disable crunching in the commandline and just exploit async I/O to e.g. show an effect while loading.
Ofcoz, none of these nightshift results have been tested yet. :-) - isokadded on the 2016-08-31 11:59:48

- @Blueberry: Sorry for putting down and kudos for Shrinkler. I will correct the docs. I didn't read yours as it seems. One reason for Cranker was that a particular Zymosis prod didn't work here: http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=67945
I think there's a chance now this can be corrected by supplying a3 in the launcher and enabling the LoadSeg() option in the packmenu config.
@bonefish: OS X version: No problem, it's all ANSI C. Will get back to you, or contact me directly.
@StingRay: Thanks, will be corrected.
Timeframe for fixes and suggestions is next week at the earliest. - isokadded on the 2016-08-30 17:15:14
