- The idea was good, it could have been more dynamic, but congrats to have released it back when there wasn't much on that platform.

Hi, this is a brilliant demo. Unfortunately, the demo crashes with a red screen right after the "Girl with Joystick" part. I have a CPC 6128 with an HxC Gotek (running the latest firmware v5.2.3.6a) and a CRTC1. I've never had any issues with this CPC before—everything else works fine. Can anyone here help? Cheers
You can load each part with some parameters in the BASIC command:
RUN"HBL" ' crtc=1 part=intro
RUN"HBL" ' crtc=1 part=polar
RUN"HBL" ' crtc=1 part=easy
I hope it can help you to watch the demo on your machine! - isokadded on the 2026-05-23 16:02:21

- A new version is now available with some graphical and curves fixes in the Make It Easy part.
Before Make It Easy Press starts, press and hold:
- the F1 key to view the HBL during the demo (for tech enthusiasts)
- the F2 key to freeze the logo (for those who get seasick easily)
Thanks for watching! - isokadded on the 2026-05-17 22:25:52

- Thanks for the comments!
It all started with my curiosity about the intro screens for Onescreen Colonies 1 and Scroll Factory. I wondered why those screens were static and why the mode change, made possible after generating an horizontal blanking, happened at a specific point.
So I analyzed the code for Scroll Factory and then had some fun moving the position of the blanking zone. I saw that there was a wide range of possibilities, and the idea of making it move with an effect came to me.
The prototype for the scrolls in Make It Easy (spot the reference!) was ready for the Benediction Coding Party #4. Then I suggested to Krusty that we incorporate mode changes into his Polar Dots part as a decorative element. The idea for the intro came later, on paper, and then I found the courage to code it. A multitude of tests, often empirical, on the real machines were necessary for the CRTC adaptations to hide various artifacts caused by the technique. It’s probably not perfect, the pros will do better!
The intro grew thanks to the graphic and technical contributions of RetroVynz, who is participating in a demo for the first time. Well done and welcome!
The rest is the result of the daily, relentless work of Krusty, Voxfreax, and Warlord to achieve the best possible synchronization and a demo that loops seamlessly.
I admit that this technique might not be very interesting to those unfamiliar with the CPC, but I’m sure that seeing multiple modes on the same line always makes an impression on CPC enthusiasts!
Watch it on a real CTM!
@BSC: sorry, but we managed to avoid some even worse puns involving H, B, and L! ;) - isokadded on the 2026-04-15 00:31:42
