How are you ever going to practice and improve and LEARN if you let something else write the code for you?
For example by going through the resulting source code to study it. That's a no-brainer .. If you want to learn something it's good to start with making changes to the source code, saving it, seeing what changed, study which line does what and next time try an own written experiment. Although I am not sure if a skilled programmer would need to do this. Still, there is no right or wrong here, every human learns differently. - isokadded on the 2026-10-21 12:05:17

- That screenshot looks like a scene out of Beamt Saber, hmm ... might be the coloring. I believe there was a Beat Saber clone for the Amiga at some point, not sure what happened to it though.
I can relate to some of the stuff you mentioned in your commi, but I'm afraid the demo as such felt unnecessary. If using AI for (assisted) demomaking, shouldn't the aim be to create something to a high standard that otherwise would be hard to achieve? Since that's what the demoscene usually strives to do. This prod does not even try to hide its sloppy character, with that logo thrown in :O
In a way it's good if people start discussing current developments and the scen in depth, on the other hand I don't see how continued half-baked attempts such as this could win over anyone on the fence, let alone those who strictly oppose AI use. And by that I don't want to criticise your coding abilities at all. If you're coding professionally then they're infinitely better than mine. But that's ok, I'm not a coder.
Get a graphics artist and a musician, do something together that has soul and thought in it. And yes that's absolutely possible with AI too, just needs an own idea in your head. AI can't come up with ideas on its own!!
And toolchain building is the right approach if you insist on incorporating AI assistance in your work. Because that will add credibility to your output. Screw the nay-sayers. There will always be people not liking something even if you did everything the way THEY expect you to do things. At the end of the day, you do what YOU feel happy with and if you can get others to like it too, then that's a great feeling. Maybe include an explanation of your creative process and workflow, so people can understand where the human part was involved, so people have a chance of appreciating your effort.
Yeah so .. more slop is not the answer, obviously. Try harder or leave it be, because people's judgment will be crushing .. trust me bro ;) - isokadded on the 2026-10-21 02:26:25

I meant the bullying of the comments quoted in the prod.
please stop this narrative immediately. the victims here are millions of source code authors and artists, the planet, the destroyed books, the internet, FLOSS culture and infrastructure and the millions of people who de-skilled or full on went into psychosis.
or even people wanting to buy new hardware and can't due to the neat RAM and GFX card prices
srsly, it really isn't "just a tool" @sunspire
did you address two sceners or was that a false quote? I didn't talk about bullying :)
The way big tech AI came to be (stolen training data) and how big corporation leaders exploit the world markets for their own riches (do they even need any more of it in their lifetime??) and the evinronmental impact imposed are all legit concerns, hugely so, and better be addressed fast. No need to argue here because I fully agree with you. But the world faced equally challenging times during the industrial revolution, automobile, synthesizers (threatened musicians shouting "that's not real music!"), the internet. None of these came to be ethically, well maybe synthesizers, I dunno, but deffo not the rest. They had cost millions of jobs, created new ones all the same.
The source code authors that were stolen from as you mentioned have access to the same new tech than the people who are now newly getting into software "making", or whichever other trade they choose. Unfortunately, companies also utilize this to lay off their staff thanks to AI automation. This is terrible, yes.
If anything, said authors still have leading IMO because of their decades of experience and skills. Those skills are not going away, but the world spins in a new reality that people need to adapt to somehow if they want to stay relevant in the future. Is it fair? Hell no. But what in life ever is? Stop fighting windmills, step up your game above the rest I suppose .. what other options are there really?
Personally I take the chance to learn from it all in my spare time besides a unrelated fulltime job akin to psycho-terror at times. So I teach myself coding more little html and javascript tools or games, getting deeper into threejs and improving my workflow within 3d editors, working on little VR projects for my headset. Things that are FUN to make and teach me along the way. I fixed an issue that's been bugging me forever in Open Brush's source code that would render the app in low resolution with heavy aliasing flicker and disabled passthrough mode on Pico 4 headsets, because on the github issues tracker nobody has worked on it for years. Now it renders beautifully.

So yes, it is a tool for me to learn new things or improve existing skills and for getting things done. Exactly what AI should be. Yet like any sane PC user I am too waiting for the AI bubble to burst and h/w prices to drop so we all can afford our digital hobby again.

- @4gentE
It was a personal holiday photo passed through Fooocus AI's anime filter on my local machine, so yes that would count as slop. It was made in a hurry since we did not have an invitation demo that year. One was in the works but sadly not finished in time. The image was never submitted to a compo or otherwise used, however, so I don't get why you're so worked up about it? If that's your only complaint though then I'm happy to tell you I won't make that mistake again.

- This is more a comment about the topic at hand rather than a reply about the demo itself. I didn't want to dive in at first, but I feel I ought to add my two cents ..
To generalize all AI use as slop is wrong because there is no "THE" AI. It's just a ridiculous broad buzzword term for a gazillion different tools, machines, platforms, use cases.
People get triggered by those two letters without understanding the concept of AI in its broader sense. The people complaining about it the loudest are often the ones who never used it for more than slop prompting, they never took the time to research valid uses cases and frankly, know shit about the topic beyond the common mainstream media and pub table chatter noise.
To generalize all AI use as "slop" is disheartening, because you ironically deny especially creative artists to express themselves in new ways not possible (to them) before. And I expressively don't mean single prompt slop content the internet is swamped with. I am talking about content where a real human person puts hours upon hours of time, effort and thought into achieving a meaningful product or experience. Or a software tool that helps with tedious tasks, graphics or sound editing because the DAW or GFX editor of choice lacks a desired feature. This goes far beyond "AI, instantly create me this picture, 3d model, song, code .. here is my release!" That's the simplest, most boring way of using AI". Yet when people step way beyond that level in order to use AI "well", as revival fittingly explained, then you still deny them any artistic credibility. And that fucking sucks, because what these people create is nothing an AI could have done on its own. It begins and ends with humans delivering the creative input, based on their taste, experience, life circumstances, intent, whatever skills they picked up on their path, and polishing the output until they are happy with it. That is not slop and calling it slop does unjustice to creative people that found valid use cases for modern tools and exploit them to create new things, simply because they make you feel uncomfortable.
And just to be clear here .. I don't want a purely vibecoded "demo" to compete with a human hand-coded "demo" in the same competition. If a prod has zero own input in it, and be it art, direction, music, graphics, code, whatever .. then it falls back to the slop category. As soon as real human input is involved, calling it slop is mean, stupid, disrespectful, because you directly accuse artists using AI as a tool of not having any skills, which is wrong. - isokadded on the 2026-10-19 18:58:55
