question: why is are amiga intros 40kb? (or used to be..) -
I often thought it was because amiga scene followed c64 scene, and 64k is hardly an intro on c64 :) -
I think the question is more: why are PC intros not 40k? Afaik, Amiga intros have always been 40k, even before I saw any PC intros (and the first ones were 100k?) Could have something to do with the extra code required for video/sound support on PC... No -
maybe 68k code is more compact than i386 code ? -
68k instructions are 2 bytes at least, 386 1 byte. When size-optimizing, x86 should have a slight advantage, although 68k has some clever addressing modes that could save instructions sometimes. -
maybe amiga is more elite than PC... -
Oh, and the "... No" there was actually supposed to mean "No, I'm not Optimus", regarding the length of the line :) -

Why aren't there 256byte intros in Amiga? They have some quite nice 4kbs. Also, the C64 onefilers category are 50kb because the other remaining goes to videoram, system memory and more I guess. But why 40kb in Amiga? Any technical explanation? Or just so? -
Amiga users can't count past 40. Simple. -
It's quite simple why Amiga doesn't have 256 byte demos... DOS is the only OS I know that's still being used, which supports raw binaries... Amiga requires headers, so it's probably impossible to do anything in 256 bytes, much like in Windows. -
All computer platforms - RULEZ!!! ('cause there are demos and intros for them :)) -
I guess I am caring a lot of shit from the "Get A Life" matters, to spoil so much the thread :( -
4 unpacked 320x256 bitplanes are 40k i suppose.. -
EVOKE EVOKE EVOKE! -
Even ECS Amigas supports up to 6 bitplanes (EHB mode) in 320x256, so why should it somehow connected to the size of 4 bitplanes? Anyway, it's simply the size of 4k intros x10 i guess. - 2003-08-23

i have no idea, i know jack shit about amigas ;)
