mercury 64k -> wow -
I feel so humble and small after what Mercury and Conspiracy just released... -
lick me beautifull!!! -
drift: It's a weird mixed feeling of elevation, respect, and depression... -
it's good to be lame, so I never feel like that! Instead, I just look forward to all the other platforms all the PC people are blissfully ignoring in their creative mindset. -
noby: yes exactly. On one hand it makes me wonder why I bother trying... on the other it makes me want to try harder... -
Yup. These intros are why I had been envisioning the "Art Direction" award category for a while... this stuff matters. -
is demoscene resorting to the realist aesthetic as an objective measure of visual quality? could we see some J.M.W Turner inspired demos please? -
Agreed. I can't sum up all my thoughts in the one liner but I really believe this is the direction demos need to go in the future to stay relevant both in and outside the demoscene. -
All aesthetics matter. I mean that as both an argument for and against realism :) -
I hope more people will make demos from wildly different aesthetical starting points. Kinda bittersweet, but the influence of other prods is understandably very strong. -
I agree, that's one aspect I feel in the demoscene still isn't even close to mature yet. In that sense I don't feel the scene is very artistically inclined. -
It certainly doesn't need to be realistic, but it needs to be fresh and have some appeal other than just being "demoish". -
True. The untapped potential is so vast that I always feel people are willingly crippling themselves by self-censoring their "weird" demo ideas. -
the scene still hasn't gotten its true modernist moments yet -
I wouldn't go that far. Scener's tastes just tend to be narrow and limited. Most don't look for inspiration from wide enough sources. -
2016 could be the year we challenge competitivity and mimesis imo -
Just something as simple as not forcing in awkward greetings and credits scenes makes a big difference to immersion. It's brave to break tradition and it shows that it works. -
(that was directed to visy btw, I agree with what aegis said) -
good stuff here overall ^ :) -
Being truly original seems to be almost impossible at the very least :) - so, I guess one either embraces the sources of influence and go in all the way or try to sort of hide it in plain sight. I agree with drift that just being in the moment seems to be an important factor in demos for me. -
according to Adorno, making crowdpleasing romanticist crap amplifies capitalist ideology. so there's not only an aesthetic but also an ethical imperative to make weird demos!!
