I had some fun and created this (silent) demo. Use left difficulty to change background color.

I'm wondering if it is possible to compress all the flags of the world into a 4k format. There is some really obvious compression potential in most flags.

The hard part is of course those flags that have lions, trees, stars or other complex geometry in them.. However zoomed out far enough it may be possible to model these with some creative noise or fractals.

Well, there are 195 country flags. Squeezing them into 4K would result into ~21 bytes/flag. Yes, there are quite a lot one with just three horizontal or vertical stripes, which would require only 3 bytes data each. But e.g. the flag of the USA, Brazil or UK would need quite a LOT of bytes.

I would be very positively surprised if someone proves me wrong. Especially when using the Atari 2600.

I'm testing a bit on eventual rules for a 4k flags of the world compression competition.

Reduced all flags to 8 colors and downscaled to 230x93 png file... Came in at 3KB. Looks pretty bad though, but perhaps still recognizable.

I guess one would need to prevent turning it into a pure image compression compo.
