From the screenshots alone, looks better than epilog. :)

first and best ps2 demo! while others just can display a scroller and some text here comes haujobb with full 3d and various effects and all in a supercompact form. the demo is only 3 megs big inkl. music.

I am the first demo
tho the trsac2k1 demo didnt have any music (it was played via winamp afaik)
added on the 2002-09-04 20:53:02 by Hatikvah Hatikvah
i meant a real demo with music and all stuff incl. :) ok its one of the first advanced ones then. a bit tricky to code on ps2. (the console is not so cool as you know) =)
added on the 2002-09-04 21:17:12 by jazz jazz
the demo from trsac didnt use the sony libs.
And this demo doesnt work on a ps2 devkit btw, going to test it on my chipped ps2 when i get home.
added on the 2002-09-05 09:45:50 by emoon emoon
the image seems only to boot on ps2 consoles with a nonswap modchip inside or on jap ps2's.
people have reported problems booting it with neo2.x ... don't have a clue why this happens
added on the 2002-09-05 10:21:07 by _fuzzel_ _fuzzel_
okie, i got messiah in my ps2 so i hope it should work fine then.
added on the 2002-09-05 13:58:30 by emoon emoon
Worked perfect on my messiah-ps2. The demo was pretty nice, nothing special. but thumb up for doing console demos.

..no use of official Sony libs ?
So please release an .ELF version of your demo, in order to launch it with NapLink !
(burning a CD to watch a prod is lame when another solution is available)
Anyway, that's true, that's the first "complete" demo on PS2. Current PS2 demos are "technological" demos, demos by coders for coders. This one has very nice content (art, music & code=a demo).
By the way, is the demo using VU code? or pure EE code?
Waiting for future prods !!!

that movie seems fucked
added on the 2002-09-12 18:29:41 by Hatikvah Hatikvah
movie works for me...you need divx3.11 codec for playing this...or higher :)

I will release a naplink compatible version in the next few days...stay tuned
added on the 2002-09-12 21:35:36 by _fuzzel_ _fuzzel_
it doesnt work with Mediaplayer+DIVX Codec, it needs to run with divx player
added on the 2002-09-12 21:38:31 by Hatikvah Hatikvah
the divx worked fine with mediaplayer+divx codec on my machine. about this being the first "real demo" then i can only say SOOPADOOPA! did it before ya'!
just watched it with mplayer2 + divx 5.0.2.
so only thing that is fucked is stefan (or his computer). :)

about the demo. damn, i never though i would say it but now when watching it at home i actually like the colorful acryl design. in overall a nice demo, but of course there's lot more that could be done with psx2 so i'll wait with my thumbs..

entertaining
rulez added on the 2002-09-12 22:13:14 by raymon raymon
well , infact it IS wrongly encoded, but since probably you guys are running Retail version of DirectX and therefor doesnt get the assert boxes all the time ..
added on the 2002-09-12 23:22:59 by Hatikvah Hatikvah
nice demo

stefan, perhaps you should stop using the sdk version, or simply just stop bitching like a little girl
rulez added on the 2002-09-13 01:17:22 by jelly jelly
stellan> its impossible to run DShow with Retail if you have the SDK version installed, its an old "bug" , it can be hacked, but then you will get the debugging from dshow when coding removed to .. and euhm, what does this have to do with the fact thats its *Really* wrong encoded...
added on the 2002-09-13 02:32:37 by Hatikvah Hatikvah
I liked it, even if I not a fan of PS2 programming.
rulez added on the 2002-09-13 02:42:14 by Sanx Sanx
nice demo!

the only odd thing(s) about this video is the audio is VBR, which some players don't like. And maybe it was encoded with a hacked encoder like Nandub. Otherwise this video works fine 100%
rulez added on the 2002-09-13 04:11:34 by cats cats
where is the demo world going when people aren't even able to watch a divx? ;)

the video uses divx3.11 with sbc (nandub encoded) at 2.5mbps video and 180kbps vbr mp3 audio.
resolution is 512x384, so strange gfx cards might have problems with fullscreen mode.
here it plays fine in windows mediaplayer 6,7,8 and linux mplayer2.

if you still can't get it run, buy a ps2 and watch the real demo ;)

nice demo, not breaking any grounds or anything, but I'd thumb it up for its support of a nice platform.. 8)

I second that. Plus, nice music. :)
rulez added on the 2002-09-13 12:32:30 by tomaes tomaes
hellfire, i already got it running, didnt i? :-) just because you cant see the warnings from mediaplayer (assert's are only compiled in when in debug mode) ..

However to commen thte demo:
Great abusing over that motionblur, and nice to see some colors again :-)
Music is nice, and fits the demo (nothing much really happens)

Oh and .. Is that Motionblur some easy trick with the ps2? i mean many games uses motionblur (fullscreen just like this) and the gfx part on ps2 was what i heard very weak (just one texture stage etc) ..
added on the 2002-09-14 02:14:15 by Hatikvah Hatikvah
well the motion blur isn't a "feature" of the ps2...but
a lot of games uses this trick for getting antialiased edges and scenes easily so i've used it too ;)

"first and best ps2 demo!" not first, maybe best, maybe.
"while others just can display a scroller and some text here comes haujobb with full 3d and various effects"
Nah been done before check www.thethirdcreation.net ( music included ) for demo compos since may.

"and all in a supercompact form. the demo is only 3 megs big inkl. music." yeah hum 3MB makes the largest demo so far for PS2 :)

I dont want to rant down on Tabula Rasa, its a good demo.
but just not the first to include 3D, music etc.
and maybe not the best PS2 demo so far either. but nevertheless is
a good demo.

blackw_wd: i meant in all stuff i meantion here SCENE productions from SceneGroups, not any dev shit compos, however i will check out the other hotties aswell. it was the first real ps2 scene demo in MY Opinion! :)
added on the 2002-10-02 15:25:48 by jazz jazz
Ok well, InPulse, Condense and Wrath Designs have been around awhile on different platforms :) most notably Wrath Designs has been around since 1991 mainly on C64 and Amiga :) so not a total valid remark, sorry :) the compo is open for anyone to enter, true most have been a oneman show since getting gfx and music these days is hard for some ppl :)
added on the 2002-10-03 10:11:57 by blackd_wd blackd_wd
jazz: the "devshit" compo you are talking is becoming more and more important. Original music, original graphics and original code (have a look at round #6, "Monalisa").....

..and Condense is a group active since 1994.

I don't want to start a war. You made here a very great good job. BUT YOUR PROD IS NOT THE FIRST PS2 DEMO, definitively. So please stop to clam that.
sucks added on the 2002-10-03 10:58:20 by norecess norecess
music is not bad but this stereo effect sucks (left-right all the time)
colors are not coherent between the parts and where are the transitions ?
no gfx, fly around circular objects, not very interesting
all in one, it's not a bad prod but simply ok for me
"Lets puts some geometry+blur on screen" demo, atlhough music was not that bad
added on the 2003-01-23 02:13:23 by shash shash
Blah, Haujobb sucks. I dislike their "I'm proud to be lame" way of life.
THEY MADE USE OF SONY LIBS. OR THEY MADE USE WAREZ SOFTWARE. They just don't want to talk about.....
That demo has a good content, but their authors are so laaaame.
That's it.

oh my god! WAREZ SOFTWARE! heeelp! call da police! i mean, where the scene has come to, when people aren't using warez anymore..=)

anyway, cool demo. i only slightly remember it though, as wild compo was very late and organizing is a stress, but i recall it as pretty cool.

recently downloaded a couple of divx-captures from ps2 demos released in the 3rd-creation competition mentioned by "no recess"...

in my opinion they are in no way comparable to the demo posted here.
these are not demos, but, nicely spoken, just single effects (some of them had sound though).

i also don't see the difference between using the ps2-linux-devkit and the "real" libs provided by sony...

no recess: a 3ds-player showing a scene from an old 98s dos-demo doesn't make a good demo. think about this before blaming oters :)

ah, and, this demo was quite nice, yes.
mostly a simply 3d show only, but nice music, nice sync and nice colours.

Finally setup a PS2 emulator. Nice to see some good old prods like Aura for Laura and 4 edges without any jpeg artefacts!

This one is in the "fun with additive blending"! Quite nice mood
