great
but download is very slow... and a little problem with the divX version : after many hours of download (16 kbps max :.( ), I have a 1.3 Gb file...truncated! 84 kb missing :/
how many days of download for the Dvd version ?
rulez added on the 2008-06-02 20:48:52 by cyberpingui cyberpingui
What kills me is that I had this downloading all day yesderday, and it stops after 500 MBs, and the servers don't support resuming. :(

It'd be really nice if they got some fast mirrors to select from.

yeh, 6kb/s for 1.8gb .. dont have the patience :P

Seems like a torrent is the only way forward now :P
I'm currently wgetting the divx version to my server. Will mirror as soon as possible.

maybe someone could up the 720p-divx to scene.org?! plz.. .. .. :)
added on the 2008-06-03 10:02:43 by toxie toxie
Well I can say it's (at least for now) completely undownloadable. The server breaks the connection every 200-300mb and doesn't support resume.

100mb internet, and its going to take 16 hours to download :( I'd give it a huge thumb down for that, but hey it's free, and it's aenima so it'll probably be worth the wait :)

Actually, as i type it's gone up to 150k/sec, maybe the server is getting a shot in the arm?

psonice: Let me know if you won't get "connection interrupted".
added on the 2008-06-03 16:00:48 by masterm masterm
Trying again, the speed does seem to have gone up a little bit, I'll see if I can get a mirror out by the end of the day if it doesn't reset on me again. Terms of use be damned.

"connection interrupted"

Ah well, I'll leave it on retry, perhaps one day it will download.

Veryveryvery good looking environments but the annoying characters ruin the overall feeling. Why can't they just shut the fuck up while walking etc..? Piggy.

Great animations, but many scenes seem to be completely random and included just to be able to show some new effects.

I get the impression they had a rough idea about the story and made scenes as they went along, while okay for a demo, that doesn't work well for a feature film.

Next time, make a complete script please. But still thumps up for the animations and the amazing work, it must have taken a very long time to get this finished.
rulez added on the 2008-06-22 14:22:34 by Joghurt Joghurt
I've finally watched it. And... wow. Yes the characters "talking" all the time were a bit annoying sometimes, the story was too slow paced thus not as interesting as it could have been properly told and some scenes were kind of random... but... wow. Apart from that this animation is absolutely brilliant! Modeling, texturing, lighting... great job guys! Really professionally done!

This is good, now that i have finally seen all of it. I want 1080p so bad, but compromises had to be made. I tried downloading it twice, averaged maybe 50k/s, and only got about 1.4 gigs before it stopped.

Having seen some of the previous egon & donci shorts, the donci-filled-with-air gag is still hilarious. I wonder what the purpose of the UFO is, who is watching them, and why (other than to make the strange landscape). Seems like after they found the wrench, or the tiny brain, the two were not worth being abducted.

The animation quality equals Pixar's, congrats. Soundtrack is awesome too. A good show.

finally was able to get the 1080p version, and it is stunning!
BEST ANIME EVER! pixar are pwnt ;)

seriously, it's such a wonder, the soundtrack is a wonder by itself, the masterly direction should be taught in cinema schools, and the 3D artwork is so gorgeous!

moreover many sequences scream "demoscene!" while remaining totally accessible to kiddies and everyone.

EPIC SUCCESS!

I loved this a lot! Watched the DVD-Version which looks absolutely breathtaking...on par with Pixar. It's true that this movie looks and feels like a showreel from time to time...but I didn't care. Many of those scenes had a nice road movie feeling and there are lots of lovely sequences showing promising storytelling skills making up for that. Especially the farewell scene comes to mind with it's great music.
Imho this project is a great success - and giving away a whole movie for free deserves special praise! Two thumbs up!

This was a delightful movie.

At first it felt a bit slow going and repetitive but it got better after the first half an hour or so.
It was interesting to see demoscene-esque camera direction with a large field of view and long twisting camera paths, even though they felt forced and unecessary at times. Combined with traditional animation techniques, I think it added some experimental mood that made the whole thing more compelling.

The plot was more argumentative than I expected, which is a good thing and actually made watching the film worthwhile. At first I was sure the ending was unfair to the viewer. I expected a real narrative closure and you guys just deceive me like that? After some consideration I realized that it was a way to remind us to cherish what we have right here, right now, instead of reaching towards other (probably) imaginary worlds.

Since this was a scene production it's mandatory to comment the rendering. Well, it was good. Pixar quality and all that. I liked the small visual references to other works.

There is some additional criticism I could express here but I believe such minor matters do not weigh too much. We got a full blown movie with emotional impact and actual characters. It's rough around the edges and it's worth your time.

Just watched this again after 9 years. Still beautiful. Still "not your standard animation film" with lots of demoscene-ish parts.

And it leaves the possibility for "Egon and Dönci 2: Going to Earth for real this time" :)
