Howdy!
Sorry for the lack of music, but this small demo was done for a specific compo and custom hardware which you can find info about at https://www.speccy.pl/forum/index.php?topic=5545.0 [PL].
The purpose of this production is to show that smooth scrolling is also possible on this platform by using pseudo hires mode and by finding appropriate patterns in ROM. It works fine with unmodded RAMPACK.
To emulate scrolling f.e. of "one pixel" of char (here it's line 8x1 pixels) I needed this values to do it: ...,$FF00,$3FC0,$0FF0,$03FC,$00FF,... . If you decode this combinations to binary representation you will find it's a shift of eight ones by 2 pixels. I found such patterns in $1C page of ROM (edition 2 only).
Logo was drawn by Isildur with restricted bits combination from that page only, so... kudos mate! :)
I've made a special tool do a conversion from C64 logo (chars+screen) to ZX-81 bitmap. It let's you compare the result with all ROM pages and choose the best fitting one. If anyone is interested just let me know.
ZX-81 is very interesting machine, with more unknown possibilities to show, but it needs more love... <3
