that's my kind of bassline! bit too much monochrome to my taste; maybe it's just the particular color of green I didn't quite like and it would've been ok e.g. black& white. and wtf freepascal, why :D

The shallow depth of field works very well in some of the shots.

So the story goes, Pasy obviously writes everything in Pascal. Or with Delphi at work. With such nick, it's kinda mandatory. :) Their previous 4K attempt involved Pasy writing the visuals/effect code in Pascal, and then Aha rewriting it to C by hand so it can be compiled with MSVC, Crinked, and so on. Or so I've been told, I wasn't involved. But I'm a contributor to the Free Pascal Compiler project, so when I learnt that they're about to do this again, I was like "why would you rewrite Pascal to C by hand, it's possible to do a 4K just fine in FPC". Aha was a bit reluctant to believe, so I had to prove it. For him, and for myself. And not just that it's possible, but that one can build a workable toolchain around this, so Pasy can iterate faster while writing visuals. Aaaand long story short, here it is.

So basically I the two "tricky" parts are getting FPC code linked in a way, which won't involve the default runtime lib which is around 20-odd K at least, plus having Win32 API imports that are recognized by Crinkler, because the ones FPC uses by default aren't. If you have that as baseline, the rest is quite straightforward.

I know others have been doing size limited entries in FPC, so this is not breaking any really new grounds. It was more an internal prove-it-for-ourselves, and do some groundwork for future prods, rather than trying to break new grounds. But Aha ported 14400sec back to Pascal to test the new chain, and the backport is actually a few bytes smaller than the original C version. So, there you go. :)

Couldn't care less which language was used to create this. Nice looking 4k with good music.

Very much an one effect show, but gotta respect the effort of bringing a whole new toolchain to the table.
It's a pretty okay one effect show anyway.

Thanks @Charlie for the explanation! Have to give freepascal a spin; it's always very very cool to have more toys around :)

It's a 2003-ish cube example, but certainly a competitor to 4k+GB of frameworks.

Even as a 4K, it asks the question which languages support the performance cutting edge, Vulkan. The intro doesn't have to use Vulkan to ask this question; Vulkan prods are missing in the Demoscene.

FPC has no problem with this, and no problem fitting in 4K, which asks another question.

Gargaj, Pouet has a problem with outgoing links. "Mirrors" is mostly weird. XD Scene.org HTTPS link worked for me when download link didn't.

Intro works fine on RTX3070 and random very recent USB sound card headphones.

Weak thumb for visual, all the stronger the thumb for what actually runs on more than a subset of Winx64 PCs. FPC has no trouble. Other languages/compilers/environments seem to have trouble. Do not hesitate to adopt FPC to avoid trouble and be at the cutting edge.

Then again, this all goes back to when we chose a hack language that still suffers, doesn't it. I can't make you educate yourself, you complaining about proper languages is entirely up to you.
