Randomly exploding police cars under wind turbines alone make this a winner!
rulez added on the 2022-08-16 20:45:29 by Foebane72 Foebane72
Maybe I'm wrong but this seems like a pretty fast filled 3D vector world
to me; reminds me a bit of LoneStarr's old stuff. The wind turbines look
nice as does the text part with the vector letters. The camera motions
are pleasing, too. Well done. I like it.

Gosh!! I can't get this to run on an A500 with 512k+512k (out of memory), but I've seen it starting and running for a while on another machine. Awesome stuff, and what an amount of work...
If at all possible, please provide a fixed version.

What requirements does it need? How much RAM? Does it need some library? Tried several OCS configs on FS-UAE, no luck.

Get out me mass transit!

ham: Runs fine in WinUAE here - ECS (OCS works too), 2 MB chip, 8 MB fast, any CPU or speed will work. I have it on a HD with Setpatch in startup, FWIW.

Is my observation correct that this is a group of sheep that has made this demo?

ok this might be possible, i don't know how much memory overhead AMOS has exactly but the executable it produced is certainly bigger than i'd like. i was hoping to get the entire thing in pure ASM before the party but there wasn't time for that in the end. but let's see if i can do that. perhaps there are also ways to trim it down internally, will have a look.

The main reason i say it's OCS compatible is it doesn't use any hardware features later than that. Whether it runs on any actually existing OCS machine is another matter. However, H0ffman did confirm before the release that it runs on his A600 with 2 meg Chip RAM. It doesn't need any libraries, it should be totally self-contained.

I wrote it on emulator since my Amiga is out of action at the moment. It was recorded from an A1200 with a TerribleFire 1260 at the party and i'm pretty amazed how smoothly it runs on that. I would be curious to know what kind of frame rates it gets on more humble setups.

lmao :D
oh what why did that quote come out 3 times?? EDIT BUTTON PLEASE, MODS!!
I started it on an A3000/60, where it ran very fluently, but even on a 68000 I find this work remarkable technically and very enjoyable for artistry, scene design and composition. I think it's worth to be remembered as a production that can run on a standard OCS A500 - if that's possible.
The executable itself doesn't reserve much memory, so there's probably just one big chipmem buffer allocated at runtime.
added on the 2022-08-17 19:55:16 by bifat bifat
yeah all the temporary data, asm routines and music add up to only 128kb (48kb of which is Chip RAM) so it must be AMOS overhead plus the Chip RAM required for the screen memory, which shouldn't be too big but is double buffered. I can probably cut it down to only 4 bitplanes though
it runs fine with the screen reduced to 4 bitplanes, i can maybe send you a new build to try somehow?
Cool, thanks! Send to bifat ët neoscientists piste org, I can test it tomorrow on real machine. (Even more amazing if it was needlessly running in 5 bitplanes. :-)

Very good one with a carefully designed solid 3D environment! Good colors!
Cool chip tune as well! Lacks greetings part, thou ;)

New insight: The party version most likely already works on an A500. I'll check this tomorrow. It requires mathtrans.library, but nothing else seems to keep it from running. Superb!
rulez added on the 2022-08-17 21:37:56 by bifat bifat
ohh huge if true! it does use some trig functions, it's probably that. i was going to write that data out to a file and just incbin it in the asm but never got round to it.
only missing a dancing potato ;)

Not bad, but system-requirements are far too high for it, to look similar to A500 productions of the time. Will not run on any normal A500, but participates in oldschool demo-compo. Not a good development, if it goes in this direction now with new Amiga-demos, in my opinion.
added on the 2022-08-30 09:54:19 by AW87 AW87
it will run on A500 with 512k Fast RAM, which was certainly not abnormal at the time (my dad got this just so he could play Rocket Ranger). I can almost sort of understand recent comments on other prods that require 8mb and 060 but come on! This should run on stock A500+ or A600!

I have, in fact, a final version that uses slightly less memory, runs slightly faster, and doesn't need mathtrans.library. Will upload that somewhere at some point.
Or wait for crapbox 14 with the updated version in your mailbox, should be almost due. :)

Of course a A501 memory-expansion is not abnormal, that's in the spectrum of what I meant, by "normal A500". When it finally would run on such an A500, it would be good. But at the moment, it even don't run in WinUAE, when i try it with 2MB chipram and 0 fastram, which means it needs alot RAM more. Let's see, what the final version can reach.

Just give it mathtrans.library for the party version to run. It's a plain and standard A500 demo, see thread above
added on the 2022-08-30 11:38:20 by bifat bifat
Really nice demo!

And can confirm the party version runs just fine in WinUAE on a 512+512 configuration as long as you provide the mathtrans.library as bifat mentioned

Okay, this explains why it seemed so fast and fluent.

But now I am curious how it'll perform on a A500 and if it can hold
its ground. Anyway, entertaining release and I'm happy I came
across it after having already read quite a couple of profound and
helpful comments by Mrs Beanbag on EAB :-)

This is a funny but also impressive one, considering the 3D running on OCS with a decent amount of FPS.

nice 3D but...
MrsBeanbag:

is it ok that OCS/68000 demo is recorded on such a much faster machine?

Well it was coded on emulator with A1200 settings (like my real Amiga) even though it will run on less, and previously the engine was developed on my 68060 Amiga, so.. i didn't really know how fast it would run on an actual OCS machine despite being compatible. Anyway that's just what the party machine happened to be.

Anyways, nobody would be surprised if a PC demo that runs fine on a 10 year old PC gets captured from a PC with a RTX 3070 so.. why not lol. It was made more for the lols than anything else.
ok,
anyway nice demo

Great demo. I checked it on an A500 with 1Mb ram and an A500+Aca1221.... works great on both.
