The tracker. snif snif
oh yeah, a jewel :)
i agree!
FUCK IT!! FT2 RULES!!
..ok, I did use this for a while and it does have a couple of rather nifty features. Went back to FT2 quite soon, though.

BEST TRACKER EVER!!!
jobe :: rather nifty features? yeah, sure, acoustic filters, filter envelopes (registered users), pitch envelope, midi macros, new note actions, carry, random volume & panning option, channel volume effect, global volume, 64 channels... nad many more "rather nifty features". and btw. ft2 have fucked-up fine tunning.
vdmsound let run it with xp :)
never really used it due to the horrible interface and user-unfriendliness, but it's said to have some good points.
Very KooL Tracker. With Nice Balance Slides (you can see in the picture, above). :)
dipswitch :: your "user-unfriendliness" is a subjective way of thinking ;P
crap
Pure love after starting with ST3. Everything was just so perfect here.
Not my thing :)
But nice anyway ;)
But nice anyway ;)
yeah. it's OG
It's so sad.
Impulse tracker had the advanced features and Fasttracker the unmatched usability. Too bad those worlds never merged to form the ultimate tracker (and now, it's too late anyway...).
Personally, I only used it as an xm player because it2 managed to play them in 16bit quality on my crappy soundcard and ft2 didn't.

True love !
i have tried tracking with several trackers, and this was the best one (and easiest to use)
looked tempting around the time i checked it, yet instead of getting into i kept using what i've mastered
my favorite tracker like, ever
hey rm, i just bought tr-626 here in cologne;)
"i heard this rocks"... :D
As an FT2 zealot I hate this stupid interface and I think Jeff still wants me to die for publishing a certain algorithm, but there have been made so many great songs with this tool that it HAS to be good somehow.
:'-)
It was my favourite once...
It was my favourite once...
the very nice s3m player.
Tracking modules ... no
User friendly interface as player ... no
User friendly interface as player ... no
the first tracker i managed to do something with. And the first music tool I got. I don'T use it anymore (i use ModPlug -configured as IT- instead) but I can't deny IT is TeH ruling tacker.
...and now about trackers: I prefer FruityLoops and the likes (tho you can't have anything other than wav or mp3 with that.)

While I was reluctant to switch from ST3 in the early days, once we hit version 2 it was all good. I still use it to this day as my main scene music tool.
sounded really really nice.
i never was a fan of the interface, but that's almost a religious issue.
the network mode was killer feature that was sadly never used, probably cause it required ipx at a time where network cards weren't that common.
still, yep an incredible tool.

hmmm... i wonder if network mode will work decently on WinXP wireless cards runningIT on vdmsound. would own :D
tried several times to get network on IT to work and always failed misserably no matter how much doc i read and trials we attempted.. :/

It made me itch all over while using it (ST3 interface...bleargh) but starting with version 2.x it was actually getting very funky.
Hm, can't run this in emulator... How to use this in emulator? Do you have video filez?
"video filez"? Dude, this is a tool, no demo.
I've used IT for a year and then moved to FT2, I prefer FT2 but IT was a fine alternative.
make more music.
FT2 is better. But this is also nice :P
switching from st3 to it was like switching from a aston martin to a bentley. ok, bad comparison, but it's late anyway...
IT == my scene life
IT == my scene life
I spent soooo many hours and hours with you, darling :_)
heh :))
All the music i wrote during my oldtime as a scener was with this great piece of software... XM and S3M effects in the same product!
erpherman: ft2 is better?! blah, you don`t anything about trackers...

nice
What can be better then IT ?!! May be only 100% IT clone like Schism Tracker :)
IT might have had more features but it came long time after FT2 introduced instruments with envelopes and stuff. I remember the first IT versions simply represented ST3 without any fancy new features. Textmode interface sucks also ;)
The best tracker GUI ever.
yeah, the idea to make it in textmode to save cpu time was (in 1995) just brilliant.
Horrible interface.
BEST TRACKER EVER AND I DONT KNOW WHY I AM ALLCAPS!
i'm quite sure timba uses IT, too
The Only One. Still no good equivalent for Windows/Linux. (and no, Schism is NOT a good equivalent - everything made on the ModPlug engine is shit.)
yeah, IT have the best gui :D
impulse style for ever <3
impulse style for ever <3
oh, and schism is good, also modplug!
The evolution of Scream Tracker 3...
Too bad that hasn't the same popularity as FastTracker, because this one has really more functions!

Great tracker :)
I never could get along with the UI - luckily, others did!
Someone got the unoffical v2.16?
.it rocks but the program itself is horrible, mainly because of the GUI.
What uncle-x said.
i want to donate to Jeffry Lim. Does anybody know is this link working?

THE GODDEST PROGRAM EVAR !
Saga Musix: v2.16 ? I had the v2.17 if I remember well. I have bought IT2 but now it works no more on my computers (big cryings).

I meant I brought Impulse Tracker 2 of course ! :)
I purchased it too, for the lowpass filters.
Oh and
[flamewar]
People who complain about the interface never REALLY tried to compose in IT2.14... all in all, its making sense once you REALLY use it.

superior
i give it a rulez for the filters ;)
for such a great tracker.
I started tracking in 2005/06. This got me started after FT2 refused to work. After ripping the samples from "Zak-zaka-zak-zak" (an s3m) I made a track in, uh, not too long.
Context-sensitive help really helps. This is pretty much vital. I caught on eventually after reading IT.TXT... or something like that.
Nowadays I tend to track in SchismTracker as I run Linux & FreeBSD, although I like to keep this available in DOSBox (so I can build fairly accurate players and also tell Storlek what else needs fixing in the meantime).
This is the most advanced of the "big 4" (mod/s3m/xm/it), and yet manages to be easier to write a decent player for than XM.
I really only have one gripe about this. Pulse, you need to document your damn compression and your damn filters, instead of relying on the rest of us to work it out.
Otherwise, I would recommend this to pretty much anyone who's got DOS.

and thiZ one for the no-cursor-follow-mode (blatantly ripped this. ha!)
It was the bestest and I still didn't find replacement. I bought it (it's what I meant) from Jeff "Pulse" Lim. Many thanks to him for this great good old times.
one of my favourite trackers. <3
Love this program.
Oh boy!
In retrospect, I should have used IT more.
Thumb for the quality, even though I didn't prefer it. One sacrificed a certain kind of interface for more powerful features. However... things like filters are commonplace in computer music programs of all kinds nowadays, and some of the 'power' of IT (over its competitors) in the 90s is no longer a selling point in 2011, specially given that people still using trackers tend to be using them for chip music now. Still... I mean, how can you thumb it down? Great program.
For sure what a stuff ! I've written hundredS .IT songs with it since 1997 to 2004 ;)
I'm an Impulse Tracker lover !

CRAP!
PT & FT2 FTW!

The definitive tracker of the 90s.
Yep.
A fascinating engineering effort and source of many hours of great music.
never used it, maybe only once. i hated the UI but i loved the features FT2 lacked (filters, NNA, etc.), obvious thumbs up
Best Tracker and Best Format (still use it today)
Also its Open Source and runs on FreeDOS+QEmu

FUCK IT!! FT2 RULES!!
This was a revolution in features (64 channels, 99 samples, filters...) but for many people (including me) the text-mode interface looked like a step back. But, I know, looks might be deceptive.
No doubt it's an impressive tool that allows the creation of fantastic music.
So, thumbs up!
