I'd prefer it without the ugly red cross in front, the sphere looks indeed cool, though it's based on a concept I guess?

Raytrace nice, but camera and red cross - looked strange.

in case the whole screen is red, try this version:

Neat one, the cross ruins it even if it goes with the concept.

Thanks a lot gargaj for the patch!
Well, the raytracer is quite poor, but it's 1k.. piggy that is.

Using an idea in your code, the size of the 4k I'm working was reduced by 32 bytes. But I think that says more about my code than yours ;-)
But thanks anyways :-)

rulez. And runs on shaders 2.0 \o/

btw, I optimized the code down to 1006 bytes ;) Basically build the pfd directly, and change the shader init code http://www.rgba.org/iq/trastero/lns-ncsp_optimized.htm

Oh bollocks thanks stingray - idiot hanging head in shame :-(
added on the 2007-10-24 17:27:00 by auld auld
wait not such an idiot :-). OK original exe worked for me but neither psychos code nor iqs (even after fixing line 2) compiled and worked. Eventually figured the problem was all those floats expressed as ints... so heres my question...
iq, psycho...have you both got Nvidia cards? If so that would explain it. The Nvidia drivers accepting and compiling whereas Ati drivers like mine, not accepting it.
added on the 2007-10-24 17:44:38 by auld auld
Compiles finely and runs on ati radeon 9700m here (MSVC 6)
added on the 2007-10-24 18:04:36 by bdk bdk
auld: didnt work on my ATI x1600 mobility. (hence the patch)
added on the 2007-10-24 18:16:36 by Gargaj Gargaj
auld, ATI here, both at work (x1950) and at home (radeon 9800), and compiles and works fine fine.
added on the 2007-10-24 18:46:17 by iq iq
hmmm then I'm lost. I had to carefully convert all the numbers to floats to get it to compile and then run ok.
added on the 2007-10-24 19:13:31 by auld auld
My x600 does the same thing, it gives an error if you type 4 instead of 4.0. Some of the driver programmers need a clue..
added on the 2007-10-24 19:58:52 by Preacher Preacher
auld: (dunno if it's the case) try updating to the last Catalyst (+ for mobility)
added on the 2007-10-24 20:14:48 by bdk bdk
Broderick I'm using Omega... Preacher, Omega or Catalyst?

Ah, ok. As usual, seems.
added on the 2007-10-24 20:18:27 by bdk bdk
You must be running old drivers. I'm usually working on X1900 and this one is tested to ensure compatibility with 9800pro (baselines ps 2.0 card) too, both with catalyst 7.10 ofcourse.
Case is that the ati drivers the last ~10 months have been more forgiving regarding floating point constants, in line with the changes in the glsl 1.2 specification (to be strictly compliant I think you should specify #version 120)
Nvidia has their very own interpretation of glsl (preprocessed cg...), which has always allowed dotless fp constants.
Current ati drivers generally allows integer constants in floating point expressions, but not mixed-type overloads (except for constructors), so pow(d,8.) needs the dot, while pow(d,x*8) (x being fp) doesn't.

iq, nice, wonder why I didn't try the loopless glsl init... it's really a LOT smaller than the one at in4k now (given you can do without screen mode change)
added on the 2007-10-24 20:23:53 by Psycho Psycho
The last time I tried Omega drivers I faced some weird behaviors here and there with some prods. Maybe switching to the last Catalysts would be worth a try.
