this reminds me A LOT of deluxe galaga's meteor storm, a bit too much to give this a thumb up

Live footage presentation

Well deserved, slick and smooth and great audio track.

I've always been a massive fan of deluxe galaga (and the meteor storm bonus game), and the atari didn't have anything like it. r0x is a basic single player and two player competition game with some clever score mechanics for the ste that I originally designed back in 2008 and TomChi coded for outline 2009 :)

Give it a go - it's fun :)

... Seriously, though. I wanted explosions so bad when I first saw it ;). That would have looked so sweet.

Just tried it quickly on this machine without the sound, it's already quite nice, good work. Will check it this evening with the sound to get the full experience :)

The presentation is great and the music is lovely. The game is a bit simplistic, but it just looks too good to not thumb it up. :-)

Neat little one. But gets too hard too soon imho.

Thanks for the feedback guys :)

Despite the fact it says "version 1.00" in the nfo, this is not the final definitive build - it's actually 0.97. The final will be more balanced (esp. the 2-player mode), feature a few small bug fixes and optimised code, highscore saving and a bigger soundtrack (including a new sndh from crazy-q).

There will be a website for the game soon, but until then please use the feedback thread on the dbug forum to report any bugs or suggest changes you'd like to see: http://www.dbug-automation.co.uk/

For now (to avoid bug action) don't do the following:

(a) quit the game and reload it without a cold reset.
(b) play a two player game, then play a single player game.
A slightly improved version can be found here (on the game website): http://www.rgcd.co.uk/r0x/

Expect some big updates to follow as we approach the final version.
Cool game!

@ heavystylus

after reading some of the nfo (waaaay to much for me to read), i can now see that you actually wrote about Deluxe Galaga, i just mentioned my thoughts without knowing the facts ;)

Thumbs up for the work then ;)

As said during the compo "sponsored by UN" :) Very polished game, I wonder how this smoothness is done in gfa.

Great game! Really polished and it's amazingly smooth for GFA Basic :)

It's not "real" GFA - I have seen the code and it pokes the Blitter like mad, GFA is just used as a sort of special macro assembler here ;)
According to Tomchi, it preshifts everything (resulting in the 2MB RAM minimum limit)

It is nice and smooth, no doubt! Waiting for the definit final :)

The new version is good but it's really too hard.
hehe - people email me complaining that it's too easy as well, so I guess you can't please everyone :D

r0x is intentionally aimed at the more hardcore gamer - the top score is currently held by Xerus at 1,540,008 ;)
I guess the name says it all :)
