Thomson @ Forever. That's really cool! Is it possible to have a youtube version?

I´m not reallz sure how to capture it from real hardware, but at least I´ll trz to capture it from my bugfixed version of dcmo5 with a more accurate color palette. The left side of the screenshot looks very ugly now...
Can't wait to see video of this.

Pulkomandy: I tried to run this on emulator but failed. Why is the tape image in k5 format? Is not k7 the format supported in dcmo5 emulator? I tested your previos intros (found them in your homepage in k7 format) and they worked well (LOAD and then RUN) in that emulator.

I tried to convert the k5 file to k7 using some tools but didn't work.

So... how can I see this on emulator?

Sorry if my questions are silly. I don't know much about Thomson computers.

The emulator is stupid. Just rename the file to K7 and it will work.
Tried but...

----------------------------------

MO5 BASIC 1.0
(c) Microsoft 1984
Ok
LOAD
Searching
Found: LOADERBI N
Error 51
Ok

----------------------------------

Should try another emulator? Or perhaps that file is corrupted?

REad the info file. The command to load and run a binarz on thomson is

LOADM"",,R

LOAD only works to load BASIC programs.
There was no clue in the info file about how to load this! :P

Anyway, finally I saw it! Nice twister and colourful plasma effect. Also the graphics by exocet are quite good.

The only thing that didn't work in the emulator was the music (just silence) but what I saw pleased by enough to give you a thumb up.

Some really cool effects by Pulkomandy in there. No comments on the art though :)

The music is played with the speech synthesizer extension which is not available on any of the current emulators, as far as I know.

Also note this demo is running on the more limited MO5 model, as opposed to the relatively fancy TO8, TO8D and TO9.

exocet graphics? => instant thumb up! Will wait for a video, though...

Incredible ! I really love this. It reminds me everything I wouldn't be able to see at school on this computer :)
It helps to love the MO5, really.

Just wanted to say I finally made a (crappy) video capture for this:
http://pulkomandy.tk/drop/F14.mov

Some notes :
- The capture has no sound. I'm too lazy to capture the sound, and when trying the demo on the standard vocal synth, we found it actually isn't compatible with it.
- Since the sound is crap and wasn't show at the party either, I'm leaving it as is
- Next year prod will use something completely different for the sound. Programming the MEA8000 is fun, but it is not a good chip for music.
nice effects.
the speech module is much too rare to be used in a demo (and have a chance to be run on real hardware...). The 6bit DAC is a much more interesting option...

emulator sucks.

Thumbs up for attempting to do something on the platform. There are two ok effects, some nice graphics but no music in the video.
rulez added on the 2014-08-13 07:50:16 by Optimus Optimus
Forget about the "music", there's nothing very interesting there. Gilles is right, the 6bit DAC would be a better choice for proper music but I don't have that on my MO5.

To run the demo:
- Get an MO5 emulator (dcmoto (windows) or dcmo5 (multiplatforms)
- Insert K5 file in tape drive (some emulators may require renaming to K7)
- LOADM"",,R
- Enjoy the show.
the emulator really sucks, I've created a run.txt file with LOADM"",,R in, and use the option to simulate keyboard. I can not enter symbol like ", etc.

Thanks for the video! Colors are all wrong in dcmo5. I used a patched version of the emulator while working on the demo, I should probably distribute it instead of complaining.

@Barti: you may need to fix the keyboard mapping in the options>keyboard menu (click on a key, then press matching one on your keyboard).

Also I apparently didn't link to the sourcecode yet: http://pulkomandy.tk/projects/thomson - svn://pulkomandy.tk/thomson . If you want to see how the plasma is computed, the source is there. It may be possible to optimize it further and make it use a bigger part of the screen.
neat prod :)

Oh, and dcmo5 with more correct MO5 colors is available (source only): https://github.com/pulkomandy/dcmo5
excellent ! the vidéo is cool but do you think i could execute it under basic 1.0 on to8d ? i go test it tomorrow ! thomson rulez !!
rulez added on the 2016-08-28 16:06:52 by yogib33r yogib33r
It won't run on TO8D directly because of different memory maps. But it would be possible to recompile it at a different address.
