Would you rather watch demos than play games?

Somehow I also feel like I didn't play that many games on my Amiga. Compared to C64 that is.
The Amiga games in general looked great and often had great music, but somehow they weren't as fun as the C64 ones.
So to me Amiga was also more about demos than about games.
Then again, my C64 days were earlier, and in the early days there wasn't that much of a demoscene, and it wasn't as accessible, because I didn't have a modem yet.
I did find the odd 1001 crew production on tapes or disks though. And of course everything had a crack intro :)

Good things with demos is you can fire up some and relax for half an hour. It's a good way to relax between work and can give you inspiration. Games absorb me for hours. And then I might feel like I could have done something more creative with my time. But sometimes I have to go through cycles from gaming back to creativity and so on.

There are new titles on Steam that I am afraid to start because it's gonna take time to even learn how to play (I am even bored of many GBs of installation and 3 pages of keymappings). But I do play and I am usually absorbed by 2-3 new games per year, besides other games I try and then forget about.

I used to try some games just for the graphics, but nowadays I appreciate more a game that is really fun to play. I just keep playing Borderlands and Spelunky these days. Also I miss the old FPS classics. The level design of classic FPS, compared to point A to B to see cinematic. 3D might look dated at the time, but they used the 3rd dimension properly in exploration and freedom of space.

Well, make a demo about it, on 20 year old hardware :)

no smash please don't, one cunt constantly talking about his cga demo is more than enough! ;)
The real question is, would you rather have someone touch you than touching yourself?

Honestly what's the difference, the amount of influence you have nowadays in AAA games is close to zero anyway. Interactive content explorers. Multiplayer is still interesting though - except latency didn't improve greatly since Quake 3 Arena.

Let's not confuse or mix up Nintendo games with the bland "cinematic" quicktime experience most of western developers like to deliver. In my world Nintendo are the only real game developers left, where the rest of the bunch should get jobs in Hollywood instead, doing Uwe Boll sequals.
People need to get real instead of pleading to the dollar man. Fuck the dollar man.

That said, some demos are quite overly cinematic aswell, in a bland and boring way. Where has creativity gone?

Recently I watched some Netflix documentary about video games through the last 40 years or more, and I realised that I HATE Japanese videogames, mainly console ones.

It stems from the Videogame Crash of '83 from the North American perspective, where the entire gaming public scorned American companies (whom they thought died out but didn't, like Atari) and turned to the Japanese games coming out instead, like Nintendo, where the crash never happened - and I've resented them ever since for dismissing Atari and Commodore and so forth in favour of (spits) console shit. Thank God things were much better for home computers in Europe, until the insidious Japanese spread their console shit over here from the 90s onwards.

This is how I see things, anyway. Correct me if I'm majorly wrong, even if I may not care that much.

Or like a horrible case of teenage fanboyism that somehow didn't manage to fade away over the years.
Lmao

Ataris downfall was their own goddamn fault for being greedy dicks that thought they owned the world.

Consoles didn't kill Amiga, Commodore did. Also, Commodore didn't make actual games. Other companies did. I myself had an Amiga, and at some point a SNES, but my Amiga got all my love. Nonetheless, to this day Nintendo makes the realest and purest games out there. Everything else is just moneygrabbing.

If by "realest, purest" you mean "yet another lukewarm rehash of super Mario and/or Zelda" I guess you're right!

Well, by real and pure I am talking about the passion they pour into their stuff, this is undeniable or not? Also they do not release games, where you have to buy every single piece of content in some silly overly priced dlc crap package. For me, that is real. I hope you understand what I am saying, even though it may come through hazy.

Yes, the passion poured in yet another super smash brothers! Now you can also play the wii fit instructor!

Sorry, not to personally clown on you snc, but there are some weird out of touch opinions being posted here :D

Nah it's ok, I just love what they do, and yes, they have their line of characters, but hell, I love that shit :) They do a really good job in my book, hence why I respect them deeply :) Your opinions, or anyone elses doesn't hurt me at all, people are free to think what they like really :) So that you think my opinion is out of touch doesn't matter much to me, I feel fine with that :D
Much love.

How about demoscene games? Not like we have game compos or something. I am not saying they are all even playable, but surely not made for money-grabbing;P

Yeah some of them are surely nice, no doubt, but again, being hobbyproductions they often lack content to be fun for too long. Concepts are sure fun enough though.

And before ya'll go totally tits on me, yes, I also think there are other great game companies that are non japanese, there is just really far between the really nice quality IMO :)

Would be nice to have some ranking. I actually don't know which one is really worth playing. Oh wait, there was this Turrican 32k by FB, pretty decent to play.

...but I do agree, even this should be like 100x longer and 100x more content to be truly fun (like original I guess).
