Does warez crews even add cracktros to their releases any more? I remember seing a specially coded installer and cracktro from Class (or SAC? maktone music anyway :P) in a release which my freind had gotten his hands on some years ago, but does the warez groups bother any more?
Beau Minet:
Metalvotze actually supplies every scene party with tons of girls..
(ok.. they can only be seen onscreen and most of the time they are penetrated.. but.. .. ;))

I don't think that we have a recruitment problem in the PC scene. It's bigger than ever, availiable from the net, and demos are more than only showing coding skills. They can both apply to pure coders, computer artists and computer illiterate people sometimes.

Well,. still it's a must trying to inform more people about the demoscene. A friend told me that if new people are not coming, they are just not interested. However, I believe there must be still many of us out there who might have the skills and passion for demomaking, but they just aren't aware about it's existence yet. I was wishing to knew about the scene earlier and so did many of you possibly..

So, I am still positive about informing the masses. And I don't think that this way it will loose it's underground value (Everyday people are still talking about Hackers and Linux like crazy but when you tell them about the scene, they don't seem very exited because it's not cool or it wasn't well heard around (And I don't think most of them will, we might only manage to get into interest those who understand the spirit, but that's a good focus)

I like what Sir Garbagetruck says. What about the places with not much scene? I'd like to see the scene spreeding outside Europe.

p.s. As for the girls, I must have drove them all into absence with my mighty stalking powers ;)
So, if you really want some, try to not shout it too loud and it may come natural. One of the good reasons to close my stupid site..

I think all this recruiting stuff is bullshit.
it always sounds to me like "convince gamers to become cool demosceners". now that's just like religious conversion, it's crap and won't work. if a gamer finds out about the scene and looses his heart for demos: fine fine, let him come. but convincing him ? no way.
of course outreach stuff like the action digitale kultur does on events and fairs is good, it can arise interest. but one shouldn't do more. if the interest isn't enough to make someone become a scener: well, then he ISN'T a scener.
I was neither a gamer nor did I watch cracktros or whatever when I entered the scene. I coded graphics and found alot of sources from the scene, so I guess it's quite obvious that it works also without advertisements and recruiting.
and when the scene becomes smaller, so what. I'd rather have a small but TRUE scene than a big one with alot of half-hearted so-called sceners.
my two cents.

I support the idea of mixed parties for recruitment.. just like i.e. digilab is trying to do. even though they did some big misstakes last year we should support that they still try to get sceners there. I myself was recruited in 2002 by going to norvegia (as a gamer), where they still run a small demo compo every year. It is very good for the scene that small parties host a scene even though it is not much contributed to by the "hardcore" sceners.

LordGraga: of course :) ripping groups like MYTH or TECHNIC (CLS is dead) still include installtros in their releases. Those who have lost faith are iso groups :/ but who care about games themselves ;) it should be all about masterful cracks and masterful rips and not too shabby cracktros!

Styx: it's not about hard proselytizing, just informing/showing/advertising(?) how demos are at least as cool as games! :) i don't think that keeping scene blood pure and hardcore is the good way unless you want quick death and incestuous debility! ;p new blood would mean new faces, new groups, new competition, new ideas and new creativity! i really think demoscene should be opened to other scenes like the old cracking one or the new ones based upon net forums. Bridges are always carrying the fresh air of ocean of multitude and mixture and infinity... (damn scene poetry!)

kusma: that's to be a trick or trap imho ;)

I never said one shouldn't be open towards the cracking scene. but I think the whole cracking scene is aware of the demoscene anyways.

girls suck.

but we for sure need new young boys for scene.
sceneboys.
you know, that loving kind of boys that are cuddly and oh so innocent looking.
so we can teach them, about things that are important in life.
such as love.
love between sceneboys.

As the demo quality improves, joining the scene becomes more difficult. I've been in the scene two years now, and I still count as a lamer scene n00b. I've tried to improve my skills the whole time, but my prods still barely make the cut. Making quality stuff takes a lot of experience and discipline, and that scares people away. As the quality goes up, the average age will go up and the number of new membes will go down. The question is, do we want a big, lame scene or a small, good scene?

That's exaclty what I meant when I said it that demomaking requires guts.

For all the wannabe demosceners reading this: watching demos and reading tutorials won't instantly teleport you on the same level of "scene legends" who have been around for ages, but being a scener is not about dominating the world with your first release and then jerk off in your bathroom for the rest of yor life, thinking of your moments of glory.

damn!
we need more papers writing article about demo parties, where the young multimedia enthusiasts gather, and don't sleep for 4 days in a row, and only eat cola.

Hei Hei now, easy... You try telling THAT to Mrs. T.M.T.'s.

OK?

cruzer is entirely right. but maybe let's not focus on the cola.
in reality we need more papers writing articles about demo parties, where the young kids play network games and share warez and the older kids get drunk or stoned out of their minds, committing acts of sceneboylove after staying up for 50 hours and drinking two liters of salmiakki.

I think this thread is going the right direction.
how about just having fun?
if a community seems like fun, then people will get drawn to it. quit making such a big deal about it...
