A shame, because it will avoid embarassing revelations about the involvements of the western countries.

Isn't Bush the puppetmastet, the puppeteer who is controling the strings to the judges in the iraqi courtroom ?

Saddam prefers beeing shot instead of the rope though I read in the newspaper..

Am I the only one who finds it ironic that Saddam is punished for violating human rights through a punishment which is a human right violation by itself?

How is hanging (as an execution method) a violation against human rights? IIRC even Nebraska still uses that as it's primary execution method

Sparcus: no.

Shockwav3: And ? Nebraska is not the perfect exemple of respect regarding to human rights, nor USA.

The universal declaration of human rights says that everyone has the right to life. Note that "universal" here means "for everyone, under all circumstances", so also for people like Sadam and Bush, who violate human rights themselves. Also note that this declaration allows for punishments like detention and exile ("No one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest, detention or exile.") but has no such article about the death penalty. It's simply forbidden.

Because of this, most civilized countries have made the death penalty illegal or are simply not practicing it anymore. For example, a country can not join the EU unless it abolishes the death penalty. The new European constitution was turned down, but it stated explicitly: "No one shall be condemned to the death penalty, or executed."

Well, that was worth the tens of thousands of deaths and the hundreds of billions of dollars! I bet the Iraqi people feel safer already!

sparcus: i bet bush can cover that part up: 'we shall exile mister Saddam Hussain to hell!' :)
Maali: Bush does not need to cover that part up. He already exempted himself from any human rights violations :-)
