totraum 209 by purge captured with hacked dosbox.
has some vsync (and gus-emulation) issues but is still enjoyable

Hellfire. I had some problems with GUS emulation in the past so now I always try to use SB16... Theoretically GUS should sound better, I know.

hitchhkr. Nice suggestions. Tried some, that didn't work for me (Juice, G,B&A). Maybe hellfire's more lucky *winkwink* ;)

good idea - but in practice this intro is gus-only ;)

x14, saint & second reality are on mindcandy.
"the good, the bad & the ugly" is most probably impossible to emulate with the current state of dosbox' vga-emulation.
some more orange-prods sound like a good idea, though.

Hellfire, thanks a lot for the totraum 209 capture. However, please use the correct URL for the untergrund.net ftp-mirrorset in future:

ftp://ftp.untergrund.net/....

Please never link to anything other than that. Your ftp://untergrund.net .. link right now ends up on the main untergrund.net server, but won't work anymore after the next ftp mirror change.

I just want to say that I'm very grateful when people capture low-res demos using double-size.
Perhaps some people don't notice, but for me the half-resolution chroma channel used in common codecs fucking murders computer generated imagery.

@nagato: It might be better to capture in original resolution and then upscale before encoding 'cause you could choose a more expensive scaler... Good idea tho, hope scamp doesn't mind me taking up some more diskspace ;)

i don't think any scaling except pixel-doubling is useful for lowres captures.
this will introduce ringing but also doubles the singal-time for each pixel, so the codec has a chance to reproduce something near to the actual pixel color.
"expensive" scaling usually just fucks things up.

@hellfire: How did you upscale "you am I"? In DOSBox or when compressing? Is there a possibility to encode chroma in full resolution with Xvid (and can people play those files afterwards :) )? Xvid seems to use YV12...
What compression settings do you use? 1-pass/2-pass and so on?

No. Can't even do it in H.264 (though that supports YUV422 IIRC, which is slightly better).

Can't even do it on a BluRay/HD-DVD!

Video standards people. Argh. I wish they'd at least give us the option...

even if we had full-resolution chroma, low-res video gets uglified by filtered scaling in the video-player...

Thank you for your rips, hellfire!
Respect.

MPlayer has the option for nearest-neighbour scaling (-sws 4). Pick a multiple of original size and enjoy.

huge (~200mb) filesize due to immense use of noise.
