Problem with screamtracker

category: general [glöplog]

I have an Intel 865 gbf m/b , on board audio and so no sound card . I was trying tracking the other day on screamtracker but when i load an instrument and try to test it using the 'T' key it doesn't play any sound .
I tried using Vdmsound for sb 16 emulation , but when i open st3 with it , it hangs at the initial screen saying Initialising sound......
When i tried running Impulse Tracker with Vdmsound it loaded fine but is very slow , like i need to press the Esc key twice to invoke the Main Menu .
So , if somebody could help me with this ?
I am new to tracking but hope to learn more from people here .
:)
Maybe you should try schismtracker or chibitracker instead, both have the st3/it interface but are available for windows...

Ok thanks for replying i will try them . And what kind of samples do i use ? Should they be in .wav format ?
I remember when i use to load the samples in Screamtracker i used to get an error about not enough memory or too large size , loading only the first 64000 bytes .
Is there a place where i could find the samples for drum , bass , guitar , violin and so on that you can recommend .

Yes, .wav is fine.

The longest list of links to sites that have samples for download I've ever seen in my life: http://www.basso.fi/tekniikka/foorumit/viewtopic.php?t=15565

You can try the /T2 command line option in impulse tracker, and try running it in full screen mode.

tribão : Thanks for the link . It's got a really long list ! .
Have you used screamtracker on win xp ? If so , how do you get it working ?
I wanted to start with st3 because others are more user friendly and i suppose it is better to learn with st3 first , then move on to others like Renoise .

yesso : How do you use impulse tracker with /T2 command line option . Because i do not start IT from cmd , i have to run it with Vdmsound in order to emulate sound blaster 16 .
psyksonk: I don't use WinXP or ST3... but it seems to work in DOSBox (0.65).

Ok , then what do you use for tracking ? Are you on Linux ?
Yeah i'll try Dosbox as well , i think it is also used for sb16 emulation .
I don't use anything for tracking anymore. :)
In the past I've used Fast Tracker 2, and because of that if I were to use something nowadays I'd probably use MilkyTracker.

Yep I'm on Linux and yep DOSBox does have emulation for both SB and GUS.

So , have you made some democscenes yourself ? If your not into tracking now then what else do you do for the scenes ?
Schism Tracker will save you.

There was somebody on here a while ago who wanted to make some demoscenes! He was called Steohawk.

Anyway - Milkytracker, HivelyTracker and ProTracker.

Ok , i downloaded Schism Tracker . But i am getting confused about using it . The interface looks pretty good but complicated .
I started by pressing F3 and loading a sample which is in .wav format . And when i try to play it nothing plays .
Is there any tutorial on how to use it ? Something which gets me started . :)
