I just heard that live version.. oh dear, the influence is still there though. It's lost its funky arpegio element that is the 64.

anyways , its been pressed on cd released to be the public?

I'd ask to see the sales figures also , oh and how many ringtones were sold ;-)

Wikipedia says Loose has sold at least 4 million copies (and they are still running tv-ads for it in Sweden) it will will probably end up selling beween 6 and 8 million copies (my guess). Also a new release of Loose with some additional material will be released later in the spring, it will be interesting to see if Do It still will be on the new release.

I haven't seen any figures on the ringtone though (I doubt anyone cares that much about a ringtone), but it has at least had commercial time in the US.

shrimp: there is SERIOUS money in ringtones. not so much effort, lotta payback. Hey I know its not the crazy frog, but timbo fans would buy their hero's ringtone.

okkie: awwh she didn't send it to me.. I feel so left out.. gutted (not really hehe)
Has anyone (here) downloaded the full-length version of the ringtone?

if timbaland has the same deal as most of the artists selling ringtones through jamster/jamba etc(and why would he have less) he gets about a quarter of the income (yes, its alot more % than selling records).

Something a bit more on the original topic:
Hits For Mice - We didn't know - a cover of Fitts For Fight's song.

Interestingly this parody is missing the original music credit as well.

dubmood: as for the percentage on records/abums, thats not to be sniffed at either, varies depending on the artist, but its in the regions of £1.20-£1.50 on a full priced album. thats why so many release their albums thru their own labels and only have the majors distribute it, they get a far bigger cut if its thru their own label.

even getting a tune played on radio, your looking at about £50+ everytime its played on comemrcial stations, if you own the publishing etc.. as for licensing for films or tv, moby's play album (probably being the most famous for that) all the tracks were used in films/tv etc.. so as much as he made on sales, he made the same again money wise licensing it.
shrimp: I had to watch them talentless munters once already. wouldn't be so bad if they could sing, but they can't.. the bloke behind thats the rabiit suit guy? no wonder he hides in a rabbit suit, it's that bad.

"Full-length" version of a ringtone where the sample is ~30 seconds? how long of a ringtone do you need? :O

Pardon me, but are you on crack? :)

In Norway, the national radio channels pay TONO (the local royalty collection agency) charges per hour of music played. NRK P3, which is one of the biggest radio-channels with a capacity to cover millions of listeners every day, pays around £50 per hour of music aired. If you stick to "teh radio formula!!1111" and count each song as 03:30 long, that means that you can fit around 17 songs in an hour of music (more likely less, since pop-songs nowadays seem to deviate from the magic length-formula).

Split the £50 into 17 pieces and you get £2.94. Subtract the TONO-fee (around 10%) and, in most cases, the publishers cut (since most artists don't own their own publishing rights) which is normally 33% and you end up with £1.67.. and that's when the record company start to recoop their "expenses" and takes AT LEAST 50% .. and that's if you're lucky -- most record companies don't pay out a single cent until ALL of their "expenses" have been recooped. But let's say you're signed to one of those feel good, happy-go-lucky hippie record-labels, and you get 50% of the £1.67.. that's £0.835 -- hardly £50. :)

Now; your mileage might vary, but not I seriously doubt that your radio stations pays out close to 60 times more just for the kick of it. :)

also, we're talking about a song that's NOT a single.

Correct, the song was actually a quite blatant filler on the album. That's why people think the reaction is a bit overrated. Then again, filler or no filler, it's 1/13th of a million dollar selling album!
added on the 2007-03-01 16:44:20 by okkie okkie
1/12th actually, but regardless, in that equation, it's equivalent to the value of 345166.6 records? :)
added on the 2007-03-01 17:02:43 by Gargaj Gargaj
The versions I find have 13 tracks on them? Or is that with an extra special bonus track?

And yes, your record is build from a number of songs, each one, in theory, equally important. If you buy a cd with only 4 tracks, it's a lot less value for money than when you buy one with 32 tracks. Then again, i'm now comparing a classic stoner-rock album to a punk collector, which is hardly fair.

So, in conclusion. A 13 track crappy pop cd is worth just about as much as 25 internet brides, may they be from either Russia or Japan, good luck with them! I reccomend building a stable for them, or maybe buy an empty school. 25 women tend to make a lot of noise!

Not blatant enough to be part of a tour programme though. Considering the back catalog she has, that doesn't feel very disposable to me.

(I recall that Kosheen was touring with a an EP's worth of material to their name. Man, that must've been awkward to watch)

Imagine YOU are Nelly Furtado, you are sick and tired of 'Free like a bird' and you have one 'rollerskatin' filler. Golly, what will I sing?

She is Nelly Furtado. Nuff said!

(And Uffie pulled of touring with only 2 songs :D)

It's I'm like a bird, you troglodyte. And hey, it beats most tracks on Loose hollow -in a poppy way :)
