Breakpoint 2007

category: general [glöplog]
It is a known fact that most 'girls' in the demoscene are only about 10% girl.

If we could only get some of those 100% girls then 100% girls = ~800-1000 girls x 50euro, which would yield a massive 40000-50000euro.
This would be a sweet deal. The only problem seems to be that 100% girls in this quantity could be fatal to the average demoscene 10% man.

selectanovel: Back from CeBIT now, announcement coming this WE.

emzic: Wild camping is illegal inside the city. There are official camping places (for $$$) but those are mostly meant for caravans.

Being one of the active female sceners I'd like to comment on the GGIFF topic.

I wouldn't mind paying the full entrance fee and I am one of those constantly complaining about the discrimination of female sceners. For me it's not a 'second-class scener' thing as scamp puts it, but a feeling of being reduced to a party decoration.

Of course I can pay the full entrance fee and that's what I did in the last few years. But honestly, I'm getting tired of arguing about the topic with info desk staff over and over again.
There were times when I even had to explain the need for a wristband, because it seemed completely inconceivable for the organizer in charge, that a girl could actually like to vote...

I'm a scener, I'm using the same party infrastructure as everyone else and from time to time I also have an entry to hand in to the console/real wild competition, so what's the point in not charging me the full entrance fee?

In my opinion it's about time to put things right.

Scamp: How will you do it with the PC Demo compo this year? Will there be a jury that selects the best 15-20 demos, or will you show all contributions? (well except the obvious ISO demostyle contributions ;) I LOVE YOU ISO)

I think it is better to have less demos in the compo to keep it interesting.
Or maybe do a break in the middle. (btw did you do that last year?...hmm cant remember...wonder why?)

Also, with having a jury select the demos, the ones that "didnt make it" can have their demo contribute at a another demoparty. Maybe the jury could even write a Contructive Critizism message back to the ones that didnt make it. That way the makers can improve their demo, and release it at another party :)

heh, right... i doubt you'll find a jury that can be bothered to write constructive criticism for, say, 15 bad demos.

tft: if they actually SHOW the iso demo halfway, YOU can have your break
tft: Please ask the comp main organizer (ryg) about such topics - either here or at breakpoint07@untergrund.net.

My personal opinion (not as an organizer) is that I would not like a jury pre-selection. It sucks if you've put lots of work in getting your demo finished and it then doesn't get shown on the bigscreen. If the compo becomes long, a pause for fetching new drinks etc would be nice.

We just need some constructive criticism from the comic book guy.

Worst. Demo. Ever.

scamp: Yeah, but not a too long one. Most people should be smart/routined enough to bring a crate of beer inside for the compo. We don't want it to feel too disrupted ;) 15 minutes would be nice to stretch your legs, take a piss/cigarette/crack-cocaine etc.

since gurls do not want to get in for free, i would consider some alternative method like "anesthetic gets in for free".
...and xernobyl...

Against using a jury but pro- pre-selections? (from my personal experience)

Breakpoint entrance fees announced / social ticket introduced

After lots of internal planning and budget shifts, we've now settled on the
entrance fee for 2007. The regular ticket worth 4 days full of party is 60 Euros.

Compared to previous years, this is a 30% increase. This is due to two reasons: Firstly, due to reasons we could not influence, Breakpoint has lost one of his two main sponsors in late 2006. In the past, 2/3 of our
party budget had been paid for by our sponsors, with entrance fees only making up 1/3. Due to the missing head sponsor, this now is the other way round - now 1/3 of the party budget is paid for by sponsors, 2/3 are paid from entrance fees. The second reason for the increase in entrance fee is the sales tax (VAT) included in the ticket price - since the beginning of 2007, Germany now bills 19% instead of 16% VAT.

For people who can not afford paying the full ticket price, we've introduced the social ticket for 30 Euros - in this case, we make a loss on the tickets, which is paid by the other sceners present at the party. The social ticket is available to anyone who without it could absolutely not afford coming to the party, and requires pre-registration by email.

Finally, due to popular demand in the scene, we've finally dropped the "girls get in for free"-deal.

Detailed information and explanation about the the ticket system and its prices are available at our general info page: http://breakpoint.untergrund.net/general.php. The registration info for the social ticket is available here: http://breakpoint.untergrund.net/socialticket.php. Finally, if you wish to have a look at where the ticket money is going into, check our financial breakdown at http://breakpoint.untergrund.net/pricing.php.
