Will farbrausch's fr-041: debris reach the all-time top?

category: general [glöplog]
Do we have a future all-time top viewed?
top of the months within 2 days...
so probably all-time top by the end of the month

Will pouet.net bbs thread ID:3964 suffer a quick, horrible death? I can only hope.

I think the answer to your question is obvious. I'm still stuck for words on how to describe that demo. Everything is perfect.

of course i tried this. you can set the "top alltimes -> more" to "best demo", "any platform" and see it at #10. it has to pass #3 "live evil" which is #10 in the alltime tops. this will take quite long, since popularity rises only slowly.

all of us are totally overwhelmed by the reaction. i and fiver have seen this demo a over a hundred times now, in different states of completion, and we see more what is unfished and flawed then the things that work. my hands were shaking when i pressed enter to start it on the compo-maschine. what happened then was one of the best experiences in my life.

thanks a lot to all of you!

subjective thinking, ahoy.

it's still well worth the hype. non-sceners are awestruck by the videocapture alone -and that's before I tell them it's a ~180kb download if they have the horsepower.

this top of pops lists are great. i'm made it to second best 8k in any platform \o/
I'm waiting to see if final versions are still smaller than party versions.

I really really enjoyed debris at the bp07! It was an honor the see the release live!! :] I bow before you guys! Awesome work!! you deserve it!

but I'd have some critics as well:
* All the action seen is kind of the same speed. There is no real "action" in the movements. Even at the greetings "explosions" have no "WHAM!!"
* The pictures are all worth a frame but could need a little more life to be realistic. What about DOF btw..
* the debris parts are all rectangularly. a more random shape whould have been cooler.
nah.. this is all nitpicking, I know! But I really don't think that this is the end. But maybe a big big fat milestone! Like Matrix was for the film industry. Lets see what happens - maybe all demos now take example of this. :]

I think the fact that debris was rectangular is a point in itself. It's a demoscene demo and here's a dark town being deconstructed in a very alien, clinical and demoscene way. If the debris had been random or organic it would have been like any other boring hollywood powerhouse shot of houses exploding.

naah.. its just my point of view. And I really understand why its that way wich is all cool!! you know? :] random shaped debris would result in a lot more polygons, a more complicated separation process and far less debris particles!

I guess if it would have been possible they'd done it as well. This demo is already far out oldschool demo style wich is GOOD!! Very Good! The shape of the debris is not switching it to hollywood crap. ;] But you are right. Its an enement of style.

But to be honest: If I could make a demo look like a hollywood movie.. why not? Whouldn't that kick arse? :D

dunno whether it will, but for me it doesn't worth a lot - it doesn't honour such attention anyway. it can (maximally) be marked as slightly above-average.

It won't reach the top that quickly since fr-025 was nailed to the top spot via slashdot. :)

Am I the only one here who thinks fr-041 is slightly overrated?

so how do we get fr041 on slashdot. And is fr041 the gears of war or the god of wars of demos?

You don't need an account. Have fun! If you want to have scamp visit your home link to something on his ftp-server.

I kind of miss Live Evil in there though.

this "overrated" thing...

it's how the pouet system works. you can't judge on a scale from 0 to 15, you have only 3 options: up, down and pig. since most people find at least some quality in this production, and most people don't reserve thier thump up for the very very very best demos ever ever ever, many people make the individual decision to thumb it up. on the other hand, even those people who don't like it can't find anything in it that actually sucks, or find enough positive aspects to justify the pig.

that was of course the understatement_avoid_arrogance_dont_sound_too_proud version. another reason for the large amount of thumb up's and cdc's might be that people went totally crasy during the competition and were not really disappointed when they saw it on thier own computer :-)

Chaos: You know what would be even better? A video with antaliasing, proper gamma and without too many compression artifacts :)
