Ripping, cheating and re-releasing at Breakpoint and how we are going to deal with it

category: general [glöplog]
Oh God, let's discuss girlfriends that actually don't wanna come to the party but still should get in for free.

I'm 100% with DJefke here, pay if you wanna come and if you don't wanna pay, you don't wanna be there that much!

And since that whiny faggot nula proved that you can change the topic when you want, this topic is now about rhino's!

I fucking love me some rhino's!

hm, i couldn't care less. all people subconsciously thinking "free entrance fee for girls => i might get one" should consider that girls you meet at demo parties are:
a) other sceners' girlfriends
b) journalists/researchers/observers who see us as merely a research object.
c) "free" girls who might bring you nothing but trouble though.
the scene is definetely not the environment for meeting girls (although for some people it worked out).

DJefke: so you don't make any difference beween someone who competes for a compo prize and someone who is 'just' a visitor, a supporter, a groupie, a muse or whatever ? :p

Yes, we should have a rhino's-get-in-for-free policy at parties.

Zest: You're not being any kind of politically correct if you want girls to get in for free. ;)

You might as well (and in fact you should) help promote the idea of the topless ticket.

dipswitch: i've never explicitly or implicitly stated that, you just did :p

and you're totally right about the type of girls there.

but isn't a party nicer and more enjoyable with the girly presence ? that's all.

Rhino's should only get in for free if they enter in the compos

or discharge

or show their ass a lot..

eitherway, we lose.

Zest: Since I never ever compete in any competition (yeah, I'm merelly a scene-watcher, sue me), exept for some joke-entries, I should get in for free in your opinion? For some reason I don't see it that way. My physical body still takes some space, I'm still using the toilet, I'm still having fun, ... But hey, I'm not productive, so I shouldn't have to pay an entrance fee? What's not right with this picture?

i'm just wondering about possible pro-active actions that party organizers should inforce to make girls more interested into that kind of parties and events and compos and technologies. Girls are of course as talented, their absence is only a cultural fact that need to be corrected. If you stick with that utopical & total sex equality, you just let the status quo last with no progress :/

DJefke: let's stick the discussion to girl visitors then ;)

Did it ever occur to you that most girls just don't give a shit about computers? Why do we want to bring them to a party that just doesn't interest them?

Would you wanna go to a make-up party?

how is this all related to "ripping, cheating and re-releasing" anyway? :P

perhaps the scene's becoming more interesting to a wider bunch of people (girls and boys) because of parties like bp - i mean like the dj tent sunday night, the odd demo that doesnt look like poop and has some interesting qualities to it to more than a bunch of nerds, that kind of shit.

In Belgium we have a word for that (well 2 words): "positieve discriminatie". Well, it still is discrimination, and there is nothing positive about any form of discrimination. I really don't see why talented girls should find their way more easy if they wouldn't have to pay. 10 years ago, I could agree, but not now. These days there are lots of girls joining the scene.

The discussion is ripped and re-released from another thread... Dunno about the cheating part tho.

girls should pay but men in kilts should get in for free!

hehe okkie a bit caricatural but so true :D

now what for those girls not really interested in computers but in some boys attending the party ? why penalizing them with an unfair entrance fee as they won't spend as much time and many resources as other 'real' attendants ?

'positive discrimation' is such a bad word. I really prefer saying proactive decisions :p

now, i've never organized a party, getting all the funds to make the party viable is surely a hard job, but i still think demo- and lan parties should be more girl-friendly, simply... more democratical. As smash said there are prolly other smart ways to make parties more open like with outside concerts or next-door art exhibitions.

but maybe some want parties to stay all-male (gay?) gatherings :>

Problem with that is that the winners who *are* at the party are made to feel like shits for depriving a charity of that cash :-)

If they care so much, why not abstain from taking it home and donating their share too?

I find the aptness of your wording spot-on or the downright hellish things certain ladies do to a demoparty.

If they don't really want to come to the party and only come for 'some boys' i'd rather see that they'd stay home yeah. It has nothing to do with gay or anything, I got to a DEMOparty for the DEMO shit and not to pick up chicks. I do that at the club on saturdaynight.

There is absolutelly nothing unfair about letting everyone pay the same entrance-fee. If someone don't want to pay the entrance-fee, just don't come. There is no point in making parties more interesting to people that aren't interested in the demoscene in the first place. When hanging out with other sceners I really don't give a shit if they're male or female.
Organising parties cost indeed a shitload of money. And it's normal that everybody that enjoys the organising of that party pays a little entrance-fee to help covering a tiny bit of the costs. Letting in non-sceners for free (male or female) introduces 2 problems: more people on a party that don't care about the scene, and more people that still take room that has to be paid for by real sceners.

And still, letting in girls for free is simply very female-unfriendly.

Anyway, it's not our fault you can't get a girl, but allowing girls in for free will not help you to get laid.

oh come on, some young lovers or friends like to stick together even if they don't share exactly the same interests or hobbies. That's just called love or open-mindness...

why does this 'free for girls' feature seem to be a tradition in south-european countries and an aberration in northen countries ?

I can nothing but totally agree to that. Amen. :)

Well, it's not like you get in to the movies for free just because you're keeping your (boy/girl)friend company even if you're not interested in that particular film. So, the same goes for parties, everyone pays the same fee, and everyone is happy :)
