Ripping, cheating and re-releasing at Breakpoint and how we are going to deal with it

category: general [glöplog]

If the musicians on the demoscene where up to decent standards this wouldnt have had to be done. But they rather stay up all night ranting on pouet than get some decent sleep and produce kick ass music. Or atleast learn how to do so.

Next year at Breakpoint. the Ultimate Windows Validation (tUWV - all rights reserved) checking compo, right after job forum and how to use windows vista seminar. :)

fzool: I'm guessing that's something to do with this:

well, we can live with (and defend ourselves) against bullshit threats. e.g. we got called by the criminal police a week before the party because someone (some law agency from southern germany, we don't know details yet) claimed bp was a copy party. this is obviously ridiculous and we're going to sue them for slander.

Wow. Gasman, that's a pretty good guess.

(And no, I won't go into more detail on this right now. But yes, we got very good reasons why we don't want to be associated with that webwarez-site)

fzool: Yes, that compo will come right after the "how to steal compo prizes by cheating and not return them after getting disqualified for that"-compo. We might even call it the ultimate Fzool compo (uFC). Or maybe not :)

before there was the demoscene there was the warez-scene..
don't lie on your roots, man.
next time no releases by fairlight/hoodlum.. at bp, cause you probably could link from the demo-division to the warez-division?

And before mankind there were apes only.

but hey, things have changed, humans and apes are two different branchs nowadays, so are warez and demoscene.

where have the good old index2.html-times gone? ;)

Sometimes it's better if you don't push everything in to public. Calm down a few days, write a private mail, find a fair solution etc.

The audience is getting to be bored by the usual after-party-rants.

venomsoup: No, the demoscene doesn't share roots with the warez-"scene". Some of us might share roots with the *crackingscene*. This is something different. Yes, "back in the days" we used to crack stuff and put nice intros in front of them. "Back in the days" however we did not run websites to promote the sales of warez. No matter what time in history of the demoscene you have a look at, may it be people selling warez- and PD disks on the street, may it be the times of t50.com, or may it be todays times - we never had anything in common with them.

You are completely off-track here. gulli is not run by anyone we share roots with, they don't have anything to do with creative process of cracking.

It's an advertising site for people selling access to warez (usenext, gulli "topsites"), ripping people off with stupid trojan-infected crap fake H/P/A/V/C sites and all other kinds of illegal and morally questionable crap.

And just for the record: The last time I checked (ok, that's 5 years ago), the real cracking scene also didn't like their work getting sold on webwarez-sites.

venomsoup, stop talking what you have NO FUCKING CLUE ABOUT. webwarez are no demoscene root whatsoever.

@scamp: do not forget the "throwing shit" compo. as aeg told you several times via icq and phone he had no clue about the entry at all.

and this "you have to be present at the partyplace to contribute" is the most broken rule at demoparties since ever. i could tell you hundred of entries at the last 10 mekka/symposium and breakpoint parties where the contributor was everywhere but NOT at the partyplace.

Funny or not, years ago we also complained about this (as heinmukk and me were pre-selected at the sid compo at those times and e-mail/snailmail entries were played during the compo) read here: http://tum.fzool.org/reports/symmek/symmek.htm

and about this "cheated" blah blah blah from you. maybe the best thing, before writing shit in this shitty pouet.net mobile, you could drop sonic or me an email to ask US? nobody want to cheat or to fuck up compos at breakpoint and to steal compo prices. smash designs enter entries over 15 years at demoparties. maybe one time, anyone make a mistake, because of not looking at hvsc or anything else, but well ofcourse you could throw shit.

and before YOU call ME a lamer, you shoul learn one word. RESPECT. think about only ONE second what we, salva mea members and also smash designs members, had done for YOU in the last fucking years.

Thanks!

Aha. You complained wildly that in the past a rule got broken, we improved on this and now you complain because we object to you breaking TWO rules on purpose? Excellent entertainment :)

Anyway, the very first thing we did indeed has been contacting Sonic and AEG. At that time sadly Sonic decided to lie about the issue (see his CSDB postings), telling he doesn't have any clue who could have handed in his music, that it must have been a joke etc.

Things suddenly changed as we dug through the database and found out it had been YOUR account the entry has been submitted to.

Suddenly Sonic completely changed position, now it was "I didn't know that handing in a 6 year old, already twice released tune while not being at the party could be in violation of the rules".

Anyway, I believe AEG simply picked up the prize without knowing too much about all this. But it's extremely obvious that YOU have cheated on purpose. You are the one who handed in the entry, you are the one who modified the ID3 track of the track to say it was released in 2007, it was you who uploaded it, and it was you who didn't stand up during the prizegiving to make sure that at least in this moment the rightful winner of #3 would receive the price.

To sum this up: From once being a productive part of the scene (being an organizer of TUM and Breakpoint), you've meanwhile sunken to the lowest scum. Constantly running around at Breakpoint telling everyone how sucky that party is, and at the same time cheating in a competition you once had been an organizer of... how low can you go.

Adding to all this is that it's now 2 weeks that I'm running after you guys to finally send back the competition prize. Last week I sat a last deadline for today, and while I was told it got popped into the mail by AEG last Friday, it still hasn't arrived. And no, after all these lies I won't eat a "it most have been lost by the postal service". If we don't finally get the prize back we'll ban all three of you from Breakpoint, and I'll replace the missing prize for Wamma out of my own pockets.

And regarding respect: Next to all Salva Mea members that I respect have long left you for good reasons, and all Smash Designs members that I respect tell me they are too shaking their heads about your actions at this year's Breakpoint. It's yourself destroying your reputation, it's not that the shit I'm throwing is coming out of the nowhere.

Put something in the mail on friday and it's usually there on saturday. So monday is indeed kind of late already.

*shrug* Ok. Postal service in Hungary doesn't work on weekends, far as I know, hence the note.

I would just like to point out that where I come from, behavior such as re-releasing existing tunes in party compos just for profit could be summed with a single expression: "fucking lame". Be it against rules or not.

I thought scene standards were a bit higher.
