btw, lets not forget there is a big difference between scanning/ripping and good old repainting by hand!

Lazur pictures have one problem: They are technically awesome, but aesthetically they are often quite ugly and unpleasing.

Lazur of course.... yeah ! Best ever lot of things I would say... The more brave one, he has no fear in front of the mighty pencils.

Cyclone rules. I like this one.. a bit cloudy in this scaled up version though.. Why not just scale it up with nearest neighbour resampling?

also Hans and Grete is cool

ah.. I was fooled by my browser which probably did the resampling. these pics look fine in this window.

loaderror: amzing, his technique reminds me of a more anal and disiplined variation of Ra's pixel/colour mayhem. i think he is coding these days (cyclone)

Weren't we supposed to diss ripped/scanned images?

according to second hand sources, cyclone likes to pixel using just the default palette in the paint programs instead of tuning it to a picture's needs... another interesting "scene" limitation.. Default palette 32 colour pixel compo. :)

Lazur had good pixelling technique, but his anatomy tended to be a bit off and his motives seemed a bit thrown together. RA on the other hand!!! Whoa! _Everything_ ever made by RA is great. Period. He'd eat guys like Lazur for breakfast any day.

And Made is killer as well.

Sheesh best pic ever? is it possible to call?

Lazur(of course), louie500(of course), Cyclone(love his style), Made did some great stuff to, RA yep, hmm. Rendall did some nice stuff too as did Danny. And no doubt a few i've forgotten.

ok, so we are actually at the topic of the thread.

But not exactly. its more about the artist and their whole work, instead of single pics.
Actually i can understand it, as there is much great art out there.

And limitations like 5, 16 or 32 colours, small resolution etc. make it even harder to choose, as there are different efforts in each sector.

The one and only, absolute best and all picture will probably not be there for me for those reasons.

Yet i admire the art of mic/dune a lot, as he is doing stuff for Atari 16 colour, which i can judge a bit. And he does it really awesome + in a style (also an important criteria) i like.

Keops: Actually, it was Guardian Dragon 2.. Although RWO later used the same monster figure in Desert Dream's title pic too. :)

To my (old geezer) generation of gfx-artists, THIS is the most influential pic ever done. It was a copy, ok, but the way UNO pulled this one off was just unprecedented in the scene. The pixelling seems consciously haphazard at places, but the way it all comes together colourwize is just stunning. Hats off.

Ra & Der Piipo when it comes to pixels, otherwise there's too much good guys

On one side of the coin I love the unusual and artistic style of Ra and Cyclone, but then on the opposite side I love the photorealistic movement with guys like Danny, Louie and Peachy leading the way.

Then there are guys like Facet, Acryl and Made who painted photorealistic images, but injected their personal style, which is the route I tried to follow with my own work.

And although Xenusion and I don't see eye to eye, he is seriously talented and has produced some of my favourite scene art in recent years.

Best image ever drawn? I can't say definitively, but the one that had the biggest impact on me is this one...
