Music/graphics ratings on Pouet?

category: general [glöplog]

Pouet is dedicated to productions and not the single pieces of work that these productions are made of. Or single pieces of work from any artist, for that matter.

So, my question is: Where do artists go to get recognition on the work they do singlehandedly? Do graphics artists (2D/3D/whatever) use GFXzone or some other site for personal "satisfaction? And how about musicians? Myspace? MP3.com?

I am asking, because I basically feel there COULD be such a "section" (or whatever you prefer to name it) on Pouet, so it's not only demos, intros, etc., that get rated, but also entries from graphics compos and music compos aswell.

Bad idea/good idea?
You can rate demoscene music at least in Nectarine, BitJam and Modules.pl

already discussed 500times and still a stupid idea.
every fucktard would post his crappy pictures and homemade bullshit, the whole netlable folx would instantly flood this place with their amazing songs
and at the end you wouldnt even recognice a single demo anymore coz everything is getting flooded by hobbyists stuff.

if you want satisfaction and attention... -> bath -> mirror -> wanking

do you really feel that underrepresented as a single artist/person?

come on... its pouet. its entirely wrong to get recognition with your work here.
post some cat pictures instead

I second xenusion.

Except one feature would be nice, although quite unreliable and tedious to code: who made and what?

What i mean is that the prod page would tell who were the coders/musicians/graphicians, with links to other prods they have been working with.

demozoo.org is working on that.

Well, all good arguments, especially the bath -> mirror -> wank one!

Still, when there are scene.org awards, it's basically coders who are being appreciated, but what about the artists that competed in their respectively compos during last year? "Best compo tune in 2xxx", "Best compo 2D pic in 2xxx", etc.

I am aware of the fact that this IS in the grey zone. Sometimes I just feel that Pouet is biased (perhaps rightfully so) towards coders, more than 2D/3D artists, musicians, etc. So sue me.
As a part of the jury during the last few years, I can safely say that that would kill me. Seriously. It's enough work to watch a huge amount of demos and try to decide what's the best, but things like best instrumental music entry... :X

I'd put it this way: demozoo.org is trying to work for that.

Still, all good arguments. However, there ARE people in the scene (most likely people of the same "trade") who actually take time off to listen/view the works of other sceners - me, for instance.

Would just be nice to be able to "scene rate" other sceners than coders.
That credits feature sounds interresting, i have to second this request..

This request wasn't about any credits feature, but OK - I guess it's better than nothing, hehe.

As rainmaker said, it's gonna be hell to code. 'Cos what's gonna happen, when sceners change groups or, even worse, change their handles, or, even worse again, use a totally different handle, although everybody knows who the real person behind the name is?

Trust me...some serious decisions have to be made, before even starting to THINK about coding such a feature.
go demozoo go!

for pixel art galleries and rating, 4sceners.de is hosting the supposedly best pix :)

I thought attention-seeking graphicians were all parked on deviantart already, and musicians with delusions of pop-grandeur on myspace.com

not a good idea imo.

Yeah, Pouet is about demos, let's keep it that way. Musicians and graphicians can have their pouet-fun elsewhere. And this is a musician (with delusions of pop-grandeur, apparently) speaking here.

The credits thing would be nice thing, though you can mostly see those by just checking the infofile.

things shall happen.

I agree too : let's stick Pouet to executable productions.

Althought I would love to see distinct ratings for demos, like "code / gfx / music / direction".
But I wouldn't like to be the one to get it working, and to keep pouet as clean as it is right now.
The overall "thumb up / thumb down / piggie" combo works fine for me already.

Yes, it's a bloody nightmare.

Yes. I've spent something like 2-3 years on and off trying to figure out the best way to do it.

Did anyone mention that demozoo.org is working on this? :-)
