Ribbons done right?

category: general [glöplog]

yeah that's the way. now someone do it in realtime please. also, the particles looked quite nice, I seldom see a particle system put to such good use in most demos.

looking through this guy's previous posts, he has lots of (in my opinion) cooler effects, many of which could be done in real time on modern hardware (if they aren't already...).
Does this guy do demos? Anything of that caliber would be a compo winner for sure.

The guy uses that... I'm going to give it a try.

Hmm... looks alright to me, but it's just an effect on its own, looking naked and lonely.

like so many people have already said before... ribbons are just fillers... just like particles.. but it's a nice filler ;)

processing IS a programming environment, hence real-time. it was specifically created for artistic visual ouput and easy access. there's quite a huge scene committed to it and all kinds of artists use it for anything from live visuals to interactive installations. it's huge, really! check it out!

soon sceners are stealing processing stuff, converting them to their demoengines language and putting them into their demos ;)

I found those effects pretty boring.

@Maali:

If you like the ribbons screensaver, you may like the ribbons vis in Psychedelia. It's the same code, written by the same guy (Stephen Coy).

trace: that onesize one is superb.

but hey! ribbons are boring nowadays no matter what you do with them. you should use something more innovative instead, like cubes.

smash: watching some of those demoreels was like watching what fairlight members have been watching for the last year or so. :)

gloom: make it three years or more :) some of our members/friends work in the business, so it's not surprising. :)

FLT must be one of the very few exceptions of demogroups actually implementing a somewhat contemporary visual style.
