Best visual design in a demo

category: general [glöplog]
I'm talking more about the graphic design side of demos rather than the visual effects. I've seen some impressive designs in scene demos, especially from Fairlight, with their urban hip hop stylings. Mawi had their day too, but I give the edge to IX by Moppi.

IX is so well conceived and the design works so perfectly with the effects and theme. It's a contemporary masterpiece!

I guess it's more of a "concept" rather than a visual design/template but The Ballet Dancer by mfx http://pouet.net/prod.php?which=19023 gets my vote. Amazinski

im not qualified to say that much about graphic design or demodesign for that matter, but ill give it a try. I can remember a demo called melrose space by threestate, it was good at the time atleast. Also it was said that moral hard candy was full of design. maybe the first demo who showed it off? speaking of 64ks i can remember sonnet by threestate. but nowadays its hard to tell. TBL, fairlight have had some sort of design that i can remember at the moment.
828 gets my vote.

Blasphemy had my preference back in the days.
Now it's MFX (including their other identities).

I have to go with 1995. The audio and visual design work so well together. the 3d and 2d somehow mesh (and it seems to me they shouldnt) because of the theme. Its the only demo I keep going back to time after time.

aura for laura, without a doubt.

I'm not sure that aura for laura has "great visual design", but it sure was a great demo. Must dig out my ps2 some time and watch it again.

For great visual design, I can only think of recent FLT prods and the ukscene allstars demo recently. Maybe ASD's stuff, but that's more art than design to me. I'm not sure I'd consider mfx demos as design as such either.

Then again, perhaps I just have too narrow a definition of design?

IX is definitely up there as one of the very best. Most releases with design work from Adam/DCS (Nonstop, Klone..) and Destop/CNCD (Inside, Horizontal Cool..) are also brilliant visually. One demo worth mentioning is Cycle by Booze Design, imho the visuals are very well thought of considering C64's limitations.

Back in the good old days, I liked design from the Open Eyes team who worked with Offworld/Complex/VD.. But their work was maybe a bit too uniform and got tiresome after a while.

As for Melrose Space, everyone should just read the hilariously arrogant nfo (which I'm still hoping is some kind of irony), watch the actual demo and make their own conclusions.. ;)

I've lately been very partial to Triebkraft's demos. Easily one of my favorite demogroups and the visual style has always somehow worked for me.

Relais stands out to me too actually. Kolor have really great design.

Also anything with Pixtur involved is sure to be damn good!

I've just watch again te-2rb and it is incredible how being 9 years old the demo and the design are yet valid, it continues looking as good as any new and well designed demo.
