Actually, I might be in the San Diego area myself in about 4-5 months...I'll also have my STE.
san diego is where the spring break parties were held. see if you can dig up any other scene relics in the area.. although i'm sure many of them have moved by now.

again, why dont you guys make a community site which can be used as a reference to poke up old guys? doesn't take more than a couple of hours of work :)

because we're too goddamned lazy, that's why!

by the time i gather up enough will to work on scene projects again, it'll be for blockparty entries.. i guess i could just quit my job again..

phoenix: i kindof assumed the US scene is a wider set than just you ;) just grab s_tec and tell him to do it or else, or something.

ps: gun remix! dc5 def. tpolm!

gargaj: if i've learned anything about the us scene, it's to never assume anyone else will help out with anything. i just need to break down and beg untergrund or scene.org for a new account, then pick up whatever generic account/blog/news package i can (i'd rather not do a phpbb type forum though).

a kind of blog similar to ukscene's site should amply suffice. also relativly easy to setup and upkeep.

for the curious, i've already at least discussed the idea here (for those w/ a bitfellas acct).

A "who's who" of the North American Demoscene would be a great resource. I remember scouring ojuice.net page-by-page looking for little USA flags, which sucked. Now, we don't even have ojuice.net, so it's even harder. A registry has been started at http://www.drivenonline.org/pc_scenery.php?cid=whos_who, but it looks ugly and is badly out of date. To succeed, our hypothetical replacement would need a team of admins to aggressively create entries for all sceners, past and present. Throw in a blog to cover all the latest gosip and news, and you have a recipe for success. A forum would be completely unnecessary, since we already have pouet and bitfellas.

Allright, I have registered the domain name demoscene.us. Let's do this thing!

ooh.. although i was thinking more of a north american scene site to include the canucks. but at this point, it seems canadian scene = northern dragons, so no big deal. :)

Dang, you are right. Oops. Well, I have the hosting all set up, although it will take a while before the DNS system syncs up. We could always register another domain and let the first one be a redirect. I'm working on a CSS design at the moment. I'll have to start this off with static HTML, since I don't know PHP. Any PHP gurus out there want to help? The blog portion can just be Wordpress or whatever, since my hosting provider includes that in their control panel.

I can provide hosting and PHP guru-ness. Or either one since you seem to have hosting down already. :P

s_tec: a more important point is to have something one can glue local sceners (either old or new ones) to as a reference - a small forum doesn't hurt, it only aids people to discuss local things like what a local party's ruleset should be (i.e. stuff that's not really important to us euro weenies.)

also, a forum provides its own activity on the site and doesnt strictly require updates - makes the site look more lively :)

gargaj: I was expecting the blog comments would satisfy that role to a certain extent.

micksam7: Great! So email me already. My address is my handle at trailerparkdemos.com
