Breakpoint streaming load test

category: general [glöplog]
Stream server is fine, with over 500 people watching. Must be a local problem...

Awesome stream, it was the first time I watched a live stream that didn't play like a slideshow. Thanks.

bptv is by far the best party stream ever.

Actually, a really great party with an outstanding stream. This is the first time I can take part in a demo party - even though not being there - it is a great feeling. Thanks a lot to the organizers and their helpers for making this happen!
I want to agree and say how appreciated this service is, and how important it is. I'm forever a lamer lurker who is going to make a demo "one day", but this weekend I feel more inspired than I ever have. Who knows if I'll ever finish the next one I start, but whether I do or not I know other people will feel the same way and this is very important for bringing in new sceners.
Very few people would ever travel to another country just to experience a demo party unless they already made something or have friends in the scene, so things like internet streams lower the barrier to entry a huge amount.
Next year I hope I'm there in person.

watching the streams (main hall and seminars when up) since saturday 16:00, everything is fine! Thanx a lot! Time to go boozing a bit before the C64 compo start!
I fully agree with what WurstFromHell and Nagato said. Thanks BPTV!

<3 bptv
let me say that bptv has been *awesome* so far and it's great to see the live acts and awards with a talented camera/sound crew! leave it up to breakpoint to come up with a better solution when they lose their original one. :)

scamp said his company has a 1gb upband, that should be enough for ~2.000 streams.
added on the 2008-03-22 23:53:13 by p01 p01
so..if the stream has say 800kbit/s and 500 ppl were constantly watching for 3 days they would have to upstream 12 terabytes of data :D

added on the 2008-03-22 23:59:27 by xyz xyz
actually, more than the bandwidth, what really blows me is that they managed to get all the equipment and people ready in 3 weeks.

yes, I'm pretty sure we'll hit the 10 TB mark tomorrow :)

(and yeah, I'm also surprised how acryd and his team managed to set all this streaming stuff up besides still doing their planned event team organizing jobs at the same time...)

scamp - What are you guys using to encode and broadcast the stream? I'm having little luck with finding decent encoders/broadcast apps for that.

It's not-yet-public technology from Adobe. Sadly we had to sign an NDA, so we can't go into details.

NDAs are fun, means I get to guess the rest. My best guess is the next version of flash media encoder and media server. ;D [Current media encoder only supports VP6]

The licence prices for those kills any chance of using them on smaller parties. :( I've been looking for stable alternatives for weeks now.

Seems like the stream can't handle the load anymore. Stops for buffering every few seconds. And apparently I'm not the only one.
