it would be nice if loud activities would be forbidden at ~3:00-~9:00 in the main hall. not everyone can/should sleep in cacophony if there's no sleeping building. so far I have managed to reserve rooms, but this year I did not make it. idiots with big speakers playing shitty music and shouting sheisse should be *insert very nasty things here*-ed.

It was actually worse the years before, I can tell you... Catch a place at/behind the grandstand next time and you'll be fine.

Oh boys (that complain about the music) COME ON! ... like you havent been at a demoparty yet!!
What you describe was way more intense back in the days of MekkaSymposium (etc pp). In the times when shiny little pussy-notebooks were a distant future and people had to carry there pc-systems with them. This resulted in grabbing a pair of speakerl way more frequent then today. So the level of noise actually declined a lot since then.

And tbh: This is a very two-edged topic. There were also a lot of people partying (like RNO and Darklite) with those that played music. The "shittyness" of that musc is a pure subjective matter. A lot of people actually came to get to know the artist of the song currently played. There even were people that came over to tell that they hail it that some actually bother to get some party mood into the hall. Others demanded to know via IRC if there will be another BrullWurfel this year. And it's not like the music was played permanently on all plattforms. Some even offered a custom upload to allow others to upload the stuff that shall be played!! The urge was to respect the compo-times as well (aside from some glitches).

If you really dare to sit next to the metalvotze and speckdrumm guys you dont deserve a less painfull lesson. Also you see where people with big speakers take their place.
We on the other hand also followed the critism of the last year to rather take some places at the side-wall (resulting in a way better bass due to the reflecting wall xD)

A demoparty is seriously not the place to find regeneration!!

I agree with one thing though: The sleeptime should be respected and must not be intermitted! But thats about it!

it's quiet enough to sleep between 4:00 - 09:00.

the best solution if someone is bothering you with music at night: don't complain half a week later on pouet, complain to him in person immediately. if that doesn't help, contact the organizers and we'll handle the situation.

...I even had an informal poll about the guys with the big speakers on #breakpoint. Yeah, complaining about this a week later on pouet instead of asking the visitors at the party (and if they don't cooperate an organizer) indeed is rather pointless.

Besides: The provided free earplugs really do help.

And I'm also against having a rule on each and everything. I prefer common sense.

If your body really need to sleep it sleeps.

Sleeping in a noisy party hall is easy. Sleeping in a separate sleepingroom with a snorer, now that's a challenge (I speak from experience here, on TUM some years ago I went back into the party hall because such a guy was keeping me awake and fell asleep immediately :-)

I was not in the mood to enter a pointless argue with them if they should turn it down or not. I have immediately asked an orga to shortcut that situation. He told me to ask them myself, and really didnt give a shit about it. as it looked like the 'commone sense' on the party is that hundreds of people should sleep in a cacophony because of a few, I gave up.

the earplugs really help, but not against the big speaker attention whores.

my advice would be to contact the organizers directly. i tried to handle a noisy situation myself at evoke a few years ago and what followed was the biggest amount of disrespect i ever experienced at a demoparty.
result was me being totally pissed off and unable to sleep even if the guy was silent from then on. a friendly shift-organizer would have worked wonders i guess.

oswald, at breakpoint i would have spoken with the infoteam member that is in charge at that moment. cant believe that he would be ignorant of a complaint like that.

I had the most unreal experience at a demoparty at Sundown 2006 I think, when I woke up at around 4.00am to find that EVERYBODY was asleep, the lights were dimmed and all you could hear was the sound of the sea (ok, with a bit of imagination). Unreal.

If you are old enough to be seriously disturbed by music played at night, then you are by definition old enough to book a hotel room.

Must've been unreal, indeed. My #1 noisy demoparty experience was at Assembly'06 (?) when I had a serious hangover coming up, I was sleeping in the grandstand and some asshole was actually organizing a fucking loud karaoke down in the partyhall. I sometimes still get flashbacks :D

stefan, that would mean I was old enough at age 0 yrs to book a hotel room.

at digital nexus 2001 we had this party in university place in the middle of athens. The place was open to everyone (even dogs!) and was big enough for a medium size demoparty. It was also during August, quite hot days and nights. I was sleeping on some table when some asshole turned on his fuck-off big speakers as loud as possible (11/10) and played a telephone wind-up call, full of swearing - for "fun". Even the dogs who were sleeping with us were scared...
