On the left Y axis, the number of PC demos and intros released per year since 1995, on the right Y axes the ratio between demos and intros (red line).
As you can see, the trends are both negative, because the PC scene is dying (but that's no news). On the other hand, the ratio is fastly growing, meaning that making demos is becoming more and more preferred over making intros.

Now you go build your theories.

Naah, scene will never die. Also I think that even though there are less productions, a lot of work are put into those (lesser) productions (in general of course)
