WTF?!?

category: general [glöplog]
OMG, who are you people?!? I accidentally stumbled across this site today and have no idea what its about. i guess I'm going to have to download some of these demos to really see what's up. Either way your BBS is extremely interesting (and entertaining).
I have basically no computer skillz but I put together an electronic music webcast called WXJL Tonight Radio. If you want to whistle while you work, you can tune in through my homepage (hmmm, that thing probably needs a designer) at http://www.geocities.com/djrandeesha/wxjltonight.html

it's a selection of the best demos. Here on Pouet, it is the collection of all demos :)

That question (more or less) I asked when I saw 1st demo ever. Obscure and dark time it was for me. And the light has come...

I think djrandeesha should learn some humility. You don't just come on our turf and start asking questions. Speak when spoken to boy and not before!

I'm only joking pal. You are welcome on my turf any time. I am Shane, Shanethewolfthedog. The kids here think of me as their leader. But I'm all for equality. Come one come all! That's my motto.

If anyone gives you a hard time come see me or Ultimate Gas and we'll take care of things. :)
Or Analogue, he's the one who's REALLY in control

You people give a very twisted image of the scene for outsiders...

But hey, i'm not saying scene isn't twisted. In fact, it's just so twisted that anyone who accidentally stumbles upon it, finds it somehow interesting. And that's prolly what keeps the scene growing (?)

Perhaps a 'newbies guide to the scene' would be nice. it would need the usual 'What is a demo', a list of the main web sites, and a short list of recommended demos of different styles, with requirements for each.

I'm not sure I would have been interested in the scene had I read the
lame trolls that (ab)use pouet.net before checking demos.

Gives an image of being populated by totally childish / mentally
retarded / insecure people.

Tomaes: No.

Actually, that was pretty much what i was thinking though :) It might be an idea to put it in a less technical style though, I would probably have given up reading before the actual introduction begins. If you put the 'meta' section at the bottom, keep a link to it at the top, and maybe add a few screenshots of some demos, it would be pretty much perfect then :) It would be well worth getting links to it put somewhere near the top of this site + others too for newbies.

I think I would not have been interested in the scene, if i had read *any* thread on pouet. It's mostly even more retarded than IRC.

Imo there is lotsa information on the Web about the Scene. If someone wants to know more about the Scene, he will find it on its own, he will try to find the roots. Back then noone introduced the newbies by takin their hands. They did it by theirselves if they were stubborn and addicted enough to, in fact. That was/is the spirit. But well, it is only my opinion. Hope you got what I wanted to say.

i believe that the best way of discovering what demoscene is, is to download and watch demos over and over again (or intros or whatever downoadable on pouet)... that way you've got your own idea of what all this is about.

Yeah I remember myself getting in an imphobia-binge (and scenial and
daskmig etc..) when I started getting interested.

for me it all started with State of Mind... didn't have the slightest idea of what a demo could be, but damn, it was realtime! i thought it was so cool to use my old pc computing power for other things than games...
