Demopaja

I was looking at Demopaja by moppi and wondered how many groups use this to make their PC demos?

Also can anyone tell me how to save creations as executable demos or spreadable archives without the demopaja program. I have the player, but I still can't get it to run my .dmo files and I can't find anything about it in the docs. Do you need to add any code?
moppi uses it of course
+ condense if i'm right
+ calodox used it too i think
+ some other that i forgot the name :p

Hi ShanetheWolf
welcome to the demopaja addicts club :)

yes, Marshals use it, and we have some own code like our own 3d engine and some other effects our coder Woid have made for us, these effects are not in the standard demopaja archive (it is impossible to remake our demos with the standard version)

to make an executable, you must take the SDK (same version of paja and SDK if you want to have good exe), it is on the moppi website, ask Memon/Moppi for help (or ask Woid/Marshals if he have time for you)
you must compile the dmo and the other datas, you need to code a little bit in c++
if you code in openGL, you can make your own effects, and use demopaja only for it's timeline's great features for the synchros.

Mandarine + Condense use it too, but not all the time (see their NFOs)
Moppi use it too, with their own code
Calodox used the standard version for their demo presented at SOTA 2002
and i saw other prods made with paja, but it's fake prods or fast code party prods
Thanks pals!

And thank you Zone for all the info. I have it all sorted and working now! It's one hell of a great program and its good to see lots of top groups putting it to use.

Now to get started on some mindblowing demo! ;)

Anyone know if there is a DirectX plugin for Demopaja?

Zone: Are Marshall's plugins available for public download?

Ultimate Gas :
- no, Marshals plugins stay private in the group
- no directx for demopaja, it's openGL and it not need those stupids online updates directx need. (Ask Memon/Moppi if he want to modify the program, but i hope he will answer you no ;] )

Shanethewolf :
Raist/Marshals had done a webpage wich list all the demopaja prods (dont hezitate to email him if he had miss one)
take a look here : http://ms7fx.iccc.cz/raist/dpd/
zone: do you even know what directx is? :)))
using d3d would estimatedly double the speed and remove 90% of the incompatibility issues.

and actually there IS a possible extension-way for d3d. it's simply not done yet.

Gargaj : for me directx is (and it is just my opinion you know ;] )
a microsoft proprietary software with patents and legal issues, protected by laws and not opensource, not open hardware, not openOS and where reverse engenering is forbidden
it's some Mb wich waste my hard drive in unknown directories, and i need a fucking internet connection to update my home computer with the version9 (so i boycott the v9)
It's a software extention based on Amiga blitter feelings but without any credits, to keep alive a 1981 prehistoric hardware design of computer monoprocessor and obsolete architecture, to help the gamers to have fast games and to help commercial games makers to do games without learn true code to their coders.
so, it's the evil i plug in my computer ;-)

I prefer openGL (if i had the skills, i would prefer assembler to code directly the chipsets, but i've not) because it's not platform addict, and not microsoft petented. it's just a political choice, but i live and assume my political choice everyday, even if i miss some things wich can be good.
zone: do you know which files your OpenGL uses?
Personally I find opengl worse than directx - I get more compatability issues, bugs etc with it.

But having said that, all microsoft software seriously sucks. I have to work with it all day, and I find any excuse possible to use stuff from other companies or open source instead. We've already replaced all our microsoft servers except for one due to their unreliability, lack of security, lack of flexibility etc. The remaining one is a web server, which we can't replace cause some software needs it. It get's hacked every few months.

So despite directx giving me less problems (except for the update hassle already mentioned!) I'm with zone, keep demopaja opengl!

Well, this pretty much summed it up for me. :)

"without learn true code to their coders."
Tell me Zone, how did openGL help you make your code true?

"to help the gamers to have fast games"
YEAH! Thats bad! fast code! Geeez! Who would want to have fast code? Its better with true code so it is slower!

" not open hardware"
Yeah. That to. Well, all those openGL you have make all hardware open... or did you mean that openGL exposes your hardware in your computer?

and as Rasmus said.. do you know where the files openGL uses are? (those that are installed when you UPDATE you gfxcard.. those SHITTY drivers that you need a internet connection to download!)

:)

:)
no opengl/directx flamewar anymore here please
i do not code, i'm not coder, the last thing i coded was in assembler on 68ec020
i just see some dx demos don't work, and all opengl demos works fine on my config, so as a user i blame dx and m$, it's political, not technical
and i never update my drivers, i use the cdrom provided with the card, when all works, why change?

demopaja speaking please now.
do you taked a look to http://ms7fx.iccc.cz/raist/dpd/ ? (when url works)
do you plan to make new effects for the paja empty box for community ?
I see both points here. As I understand it, Direct X produces better results and is much easier to use, but I completely agree with Zone's political view, as Directx is just another way of Microsoft dominating computer users.

It is a scary prospect that Microsoft might decide to implement an anti-piracy/anti-privacy feature into Directx, as this would be a major incentive for commercial developers to use it, meaning we would either have to accept it or go without new software.

Please figure out the discrepancy.

Zone: Moppi productions used very little -if any 'additional' code up until now. Most of their releases are perfectly playable in the public tools using public plugins.

Zone: Thanks for the info. It was cool to see some of the Fearmoths demos on that page. But all the Marshalls demos and a lot of the others were amazing. More people should use Demopaja if this is what can be done!

I wish we could code some plugins but none of us know anything about coding. One thing I'd like to see is more Max material options like bumpmapping and stuff. I have another question about this but I'm going to start another thread cos this one has gone off topic a bit.

But thanks. I hope we can become as good as other Demopaja demo creators one day. :)
