New Alternative Party?

category: general [glöplog]

While many people praised the party and effectively we
have created a new kind of scene, I am not sure how
profound an effect we actually made. Are people keen on
seriously participating? With more quality releases? With
new ideas and experimentation? We set out to make scene
history and push it into a compltely new direction. However, I keep wondering if there really is a need for something like that. Not just "oh, it was nice", or "I'll visit if something is organised", but a party the scene really needs to keep fresh. Are we having an effect on the scene or is Mekka and other similar parties enough?

Well, Altparty3 was nice and I'll visit Altparty again for sure if it's going to be organized. :)

To be serious, I see clearly a place for alternative party in the future. In overall there's not that much parties left where you can compete with other computers as PC or high-end Amigas. Even if I am myself a "newskool" PC scener I enjoyed a lot watching all those demos done on old 8-bit platforms and the atmosphere at Altparty was simply great.

Other thing is that a good party is always worth arranging - there's not much small scene parties left in Finland and that's a damn shame.

didn't take part in alternative party 3 because i didn't get how we couldn't be 'alternative' on recent computers too. i'm applauding your efforts, i just feel there's more to be fresh and alternative than just platforms distinctions ;)

What about letting in recent PC's as well but force demos to be in textmode?-)

Yeah we want another Alternative party. Although I liked the compos in a way or another, there could/should be some 'more normal' compos (like the ST-00 music compo that was held in '2000).

tonic: if there should be pc's at a party like that, it should be 386/486, VGA, SB/GUS or whatever. just _limited_ hardware, compared to today's machines =)

too bad alternative party is too far away from here though.

(I still love my c64 =) )
