about the Wii ?

category: general [glöplog]
can someone sum up what the steps are to homebrew on the wii ?
Guardian: Read up on using the "Twilight Princess" savegame exploit, then run the "homebrew channel installer" using that.

Alternatively, if your console happens to accept burned disks, you can use the installer disk too instead of going through the TP hack process.

Homebrew-Channel r0x0r :D This is a good piece of art. Lovely. But i have little problems with the TCP-Feature (Wiiload.exe).

What kind of problems dcclark? You *did* set up your env var I assume? Using correct IP? (pingable?)

yes just set the env variable.. also, the Connection icon / ability WILL NOT work in the homebrew channel if you have anything plugged into the GCM Slots (its a known issue and will hopefully be fixed though), it worked fine for me when i took the mem cards out... at which point i transfered the Existenze music disk over the network :)

just installed the homebrew-channel.. really great work of these teams, unbelievable! and easy as can be (though with hurdles on my system/empty SD card, as i had to fill some files >= 16MB on it first (before copying the boot.elf) to make it work)

I'm impressed with the homebrew development boom wii had in the last weeks o_O
Someone even bothered porting python to wii!
I have to say that the GBA emulator is cool for watching demos. Because of the low res of the TV screen GBA demos do look better there.
...still no demos though. The music disk doesn't count.

From wiibrew.org:

16 June 08: The latest Wii System Menu update appears to remove copies of the Twilight Hack and may fix the trucha signing bug. Updating is not recommended.

definately wont update then, i wonder though, if you update first and then re-install the homebrew channel via iso on a chipped wii will it still work? or have they completely pacthed/blocked the twilight exploit ?
added on the 2008-06-17 05:10:35 by keito keito
From what I was reading on a forum if you have the twilight hack instaled (I uninstalled if aftter installing the Homebrew Channel) the system deletes it, and if you try copying it again to the system the system checks it and deletes it again. But if you already have the HBC installed aparently it won't delete the channel. But future updates probably will.
The question now probably is to check if it checks all save copies or just Zelda saves, so a new exploit can be found.

If you already have the homebrew channel installed, it'll still work after you update your wii firmware.

All the update does [at least, what is known of it so far] is that it won't let you copy edited savegame files. Meaning that the Twilight Hack save file can't be copied and run anymore.

Not a lot else is known about the update, so I suggest not updating till it's known to be safe to do so. [IE new exploits come out]
