[slightly OT] upbeat netlabel music

category: general [glöplog]
hi all,

considering i wouldn't know where to ask this in the netlabel world, and i guess netlabels (or at least some people in them) are still somewhat related to the scene, here's a question slash proposal.

i like netlabels, and have recently started to explore more of them. however, i've a very hard time finding any music that's not either somehow "dub" or "experimental". i don't know why, but all dance music netlabels seem to only do dub. for the uninitiated, "dub" is (apparently) a genre of 4/4 dance music where the musician spends one night trying to make the closed hihat as short as possible, and the other night putting repeating sound scapes on the background. google for "netlabel mix" and download a random find to know how right i am. they're nice tunes for on the bus, but it gets boring after a while. very.

but no worries, there *are* also normal releases out there, but they're hard to find and hidden underneath 3-paragraph "describing articles" ranting on about how "<name of artist> sticks to his scientific modus operandi while the focus of his studies has changed a wee bit in the meantime. Kicking beats and harsh noise-elements meet harmonic pads and melodic fragments, suck the listener out of his body, make him experience his physicalness and take him with them on an expedition into the nature of sound".

this is all too bad, because the tunes out there are in fact really nice - there's a huge pack of talent out there putting stuff for free on netlabels. so here's my proposal: let's make a list of cool, danceable, upbeat music found on netlabels. exact genre doesn't matter, as long as it's something you could play at a party (where half the crowd isn't a Thinner artist, those parties don't count), something people would dance to also before they're all doped up.

i'll start:
lash - deelashious EP (ideology) (check "L'ounger" especially)
sudio - sheets of sound (ideology)
éloi brunelle – montréal night grooves (thinner)
éloi brunelle - deep mush (thinner, part of thn100)
dante passaglia - aliens are human (othello, who apparently pulled the plug :( )

pretty short list, yes. any other golden tips?

enrmp114_psychotektrauma_-_human.zip - harsh elektro this sounds more like industrial and electro. i'm not really sure because i'm not very good at classify music. i like electro more like in dopplereffekt/model 500/anthony rother (old material)/aux 88/d.i.e/d.e.o/cybonix/der zyklus/arpanet/drexciya style...

unseen: for the record i totally dislike labbeling things. that being said, electro industrial in the purest form is more light, this project is more harsh/raw and falls more into the post-industrial subgenres which englobe powernoize and the referenced harsh elektro, check wikipedia for the "formal" definitions of these genres.

must warn you im not that familiar with early dopplereffekt stuff, im assuming its an idmish electro stuff with some industrial thingies. sutemos is more laidback electro idm, not that much industrial. thinking of industrial netlabels, the ones that exist are mostly into dark ambient and experimental stuff, not that electronica oriented so to speak. O_o
maybe knos knows some netlabels of that stuff, he's into dopplereffekt and should know some netlabel links

I dislike people talking about music in terms of genre. It's gross, it's degrading and everything should feel dirty afterwards.
