RIP Crest

category: general [glöplog]
Nutman the same way -i assume- that practitioners of full contact sports suddenly find they have been living for years with internal injuries that ate away 15-20 years of their lifes. Each time you get seriously hammered, be it by car, bike, whatever accident, retarded (retarding?!) fullcontact sports or similar, you take of a couple of years in the old end of life.

its such a sad decision Crest, but i understand it after reading this "http://crest.untergrund.net/life.html" , well spoken, i wish you have had the selfsesteem to confront the demons you and I both loathe and refuse to deal with anymore than absolutely neccery for survival. Evil always wins, its a fact of life, sad, but a fact. simply because "good" is too lazy and indifferent to change the status quo....and besides i think wheel of fortune have extra prizes tonight, dont wanna miss that, or that other gameshow, or that 3rd and 4th one...all more important than the wellbeing of our peers, obviously. Not to mention Paris Hilton just arrived here in Denmark...yes THE Paris Hilton, i simply cannot fathom what the hell she ever did to deserve publicity, but there she is, and she is wonderfull and does so many great things im told by my always well informed, and well meaning press.

FFS!!! you can say fuck the worldsystem of governing, without leaving the world entirely. If you dont want to play by wicked ever changing rules, dont, play by your own, all it takes is creativity and willingness to fiercely defend yourself against opressors nomatter what ridiculous hat or suit they are wearing.

Im sad that i never got to meet you Crest, but the thoughts you shared with the world, stroke a chord with me. I hope you found what you searched for, I really do. What a terrible shame that for every guy like you that breaks from the pressure, from the crime it has become, of being and thinking differently from the well meaing but useless eaters defining the norm, the world gets to be a little more sucky.

Looking at the "deleted sceners" it hit me how many suicides there are on that list. :(

Nutman: I knew him but I didn't know about the accidents... and that sentence above was just a copy and paste job from atari-forum.com... Over a few years he was involved in several accidents.

Enough.

Disclaimer (and because I apparently haven't said it yet): Rest in peace Crest, whatever state you're now in, it's probably better for you than the life you've led so far.

BUT.
Of all the sceners who have died, or specifically of all those who killed themselves for whatever reason we had, if we really have to make one of them the posterboy/martyr and discuss about how much society sucks and if we really have to organize events in his name (because a demoshow at a party is so very special), can it please, please NOT be Crest?

This "life" article of him that so many people here so like to quote? It's utter bullshit, sorry. In contrast to most of you who (very understandably) started their condolences with "I didn't really know him..." I can say that for a section of my life I did, and as impious as it may sound, let me tell you: All his talk about "society's so inhumane" and "the scene is my only family" is just because HE was the most antisocial person I've ever had the misfortune to meet. "I didn't really know him..."? No miracle. All he was ever able to talk about was talking about demos; the people behind the demos didn't interest him in the slightest. He basically didn't care about anything than watching or showing demos, and that specifically means other people, their privacy, the most basic social behaviour or even things like getting a job. When his talk about suicide started eight years ago, lots of sceners tried to help him and get him jobs - which failed because Crest simply didn't care. AFTER happily taking all the money, that is. And shortly after that he started complaining again how bad society is, especially towards him.

And the scene as a family? Hah. Granted, in the short phase when he had some excess money thanks to successful stock market transactions, he donated part of that money to demo parties. Nice gesture... but then again this worked probably because it was without any personal contact. As soon as other humans were involved, the "family" suddenly wasn't worth shit in his eyes.

Remember his continuous yammering about how commercial and un-family-like Breakpoint had gotten and that he will boycott German parties because we're all a bunch of soulless sellouts? Well, the story behind this is that he wanted to do one of his demo shows at BP and had a playlist of two and a half hours. We tried (very politely) to tell him that the maximum time slot we had left in the evening was one hour - resulting in a flood of really rude mails accusing us of not recognizing that his demoshow is like the most important part of any demo party ever. Our decision (after some heated discussion among the orga team) was to tell him off, as we simply couldn't stand working with him anymore. Even during the previous years his demo shows have been a major stress factor as he was so "focused" and "enthusiastic" (as in: stubborn and completely oblivious to anything else) that he eg. dragged his pc to the beamteam area two hours in advance and then not only started pestering every orga to bring him a monitor NOW etc, but even started to unplug other hardware to make space for his stuff. Without even _thinking_ of asking anyone if that was ok (and please ask ANY other party organizer - they should tell you very similar stories).

So, Crest wasn't allowed to hold his demo show at BP simply because he, as said, was one of the most antisocial people we've ever met and we couldn't just stand having to work with him again. Simple as that. And what did HE do? Accusing us of being "un-scenish" and traitors to the "family". Yeah, RIGHT.

Basically Netpoet was the only one really telling the truth here: Crest probably was mentally ill. It's just a pity that he apparently was intelligent enough to cover this up by crying about everything else, but not intelligent enough to think about himself as the reason even ONCE. And ironically despite not being able to think of anything else than himself, ever.

So. Nothing against a "RIP" thread and condolences, but could we PLEASE cut down on the hypocrisy and not start building monuments? There's nothing he died _for_, and the only reason that he committed suicide was himself. And sorry, dedicating events to him makes me sick, and first of all it makes me ask what all the other now dead sceners have done so wrong that they apparently didn't "deserve" this.

Cheer up, at least he achieved something with his suicide: He gave magic the chance for just another useles thread revival (which in turn earns him the attention whoring hypocrite award for sure).

Other than that I too have very mixed feelings about this "tribute demoshow".

and kb, i was not involved in the decisionmaking of this years demoshow, but i think there is nothing wrong with it: crest made his first and last demoshow for evoke. and while i can confirm crests total inapproachability and antisocial nature as a person, his demoshows remain in warm memory for many people.

kb, i dont know how it works where youre from, but badmouthing a dead guy, even if deserved, stands as the epitome of asshole on these parts! And thanks to dipswitch for closing the thread, its good to know that there are people who makes these dicisions for the rest of us on a day to day basis.

iblis: and your posts just for posting/oil on the fire-sake are even worse...
added on the 2008-08-06 15:24:31 by maali maali
yeah Maali because people on pouet doesnt usually post for the sake of posting, its reel srius bznez is poet. I gave my thoughts on crests "life" article, no trolling there, and KB ensures us all that the dead guy who wrote it, unable to defend his position are actually full of it. That in the dead guys memorial thread which im sure wasnt opened to tell the world what a fucktard he apparently is. thats the kind of thing you should tell people to their face when they live, and when they die, you pay them respect by shutting up well knowing that you had the chance to speak to them and tell them your honest personal oppinion.

I never met, talked to or had any contact whatsoever with Crest, but a lot of what KB writes makes sense. Why glorify the dead, when they're not even around to appreciate it? Share your respect and admiration for those who can benefit from it instead, before it's too late.

I know I am guilty of my fair share of dead idol praising (Kjell Nordbø), but that was and is more for the sake of getting the rest of the scene to pay attention to the fantastic productions he released than because he is dead. I would have given him the same credit had he been alive (though his death unfortunately served as my eye opener to his works).

kb, most of your post makes sense and i have the same opinion.
but think you over-interpret "showing some demos" -> "building monuments".

"we" just thought this is a nice gesture. nothing more.
perhaps also because his death touched all evoke organizer, so shortly after evoke. but certainly not because he once gave money to evoke.
also because demoshows was one of the few things crest had fun.
also i should not write here.

if you want to show some demos at evoke we can arrange the "kb demoshow" next year :D

(btw, of course this is no official evoke standpoint bla)

ALSO LETS LOOK FORWARD TO EVOKE AND SMILE!!!!!!!! (omg)

most of the german sceners who got to know crest beyond the just seeing him at parties-phase may understand (and most likely agree to) what kb said. there's nothing mean in his words, what he said are facts. all that hypocritical stuff from people who didn't know him leaves quite a bitter aftertaste, not only because this thread has managed to reach the 11-page-quality.

as for the people who think this is talking bad about him after his dead - about everybody i can think of did confront him with his paranoid views on what he believed was a wrong system, he replied with how we all lack dignity because we do support something that is so damn wrong in his eyes. all that went on way to the point that people turned away from him for having developed that twofaced and arrogant attitude, yet he still continued ragging on anyone who wouldn't share his views. he even did that with people who didn't talk to him in person for at least 5 years, trust me on that one.

some of us knew him since the early/mid-90s, i got to know him when he was still working for the berlin subway service. while his passion for the scene was enormous ever since, he never was much of a people's person even back then. he managed to be around and not talk more than a few words in 2 hours. his social decay was probably just a logical step throughout the later years.

So, since he was so offensive against others, I am curious: Did he used violence against people not sharing his views, inflicting pain to others or tried forcing others obeying to his views? Was he someone who actually did harm others, so they deeply suffered from it, maybe even for a long time?
added on the 2008-08-07 00:32:05 by Salinga Salinga
please take your curiosity elsewhere. seriously. the sensationalist undertone in those questions makes me feel nauseous. leave the people who actually knew the guy in peace so this chapter can be finally closed with a little dignity.
added on the 2008-08-07 00:51:43 by havoc havoc
i think it's been _well_ established that he was considered a negative presence to those who claim to have knew him well. but it takes all sorts to make the world go 'round - so, really, let the guy alone already. it's almost as if some people here are just wanting to dig the knife into an already dead corpse (srry to be blunt).

let's just hope that you're all so sure about your OWN flaws come judgementday. and that your potential lack of understanding of the way he might have felt about "life" (and how those feelings may have manifested in his personality) isn't more of a telling reflection of your own insensitivities and character flaws. let's just hope, eh? because none of us know whether we are close to the true ideal of perfection ourselves.

so just lay off the guy, ffs, and let it rest.

eeblis: weel, it certainly puts into perspective what scamp wrote in the first post in thread:

Quote:
This is a sad day for the scene - while our community is among the best when it comes to integration and giving a home to people, even our scene can't cure all problems.

In my opinion, the scene's also supposed to be a hideout for those who find it hard to become accepted in "real" life. Here they can meet with...well, maybe not soulmates, but most certainly people who are likely to understand them. But maybe it's bad for those persons to be hiding - maybe it's bad that they spend time with the scene instead of dealing with their issues. Maybe the scene is a dangerous society, if you're not all that well?

I'm not sure whether the scene is actually curing people's problem, or actually making them worse.
SNAP!

Please dont call him AntiSocial. A word people mistakenly use to describe persons who are quiet and avoid contact with others. To be antisocial is something much much worse. Mass murderess are antisocial.
