music on pouet

category: general [glöplog]
should pouet have a music option on the productions submit list?

i know there is the musicdisk submition option but i think that allowing groups to upload there *.xm *.it files would be cool also.

just an idea.
what do you lot think... ?

No, please.

There must be millions of modules in existence, maybe 10% of which are listenable. The last thing we need is to flood pouet with them all.

Besides, ever heard of Nectarine? (www.scenemusic.net) ok, I know it's down, but when it's up their module database is rather nice and it has reviews, download links, etc.

phoenix, yeah i suppose you make a good point.
it would get very manic with all those modules. anyone else got any views on this.

You can register your tracks at modplug.com, united-trackers.org or traxinspace.com (kinda dead). So there is really no need to flood pouet with modules or mp3s.

If that happened that would be horrible.
Pouet would be overwelmed by tens of thousands of modules. And to contradict you Phoenix, only 0.5% of them are listenable period-->.

then we could as well upload pictures, bad idea :/

yeah, Nectarine is done for that !
and Nectarine have already some links to pouët sheet prods !

so, perhaps a link from pouët to Nectarine can be cool to ping-pong between the 2 databases sites ?
Yeah, I don't think pouët should take music either.

.. but I would of course like to see someone make an effort to collect all demos and actually preserve them (which is a different purpose than pouët).

lets remove all demos with music

NO MUSIC ON POUET PLEASE! Nezbie's numbers are actually very optimistic, and it would be madness to keep up with releases in the first place. Some trackergroups released horrbile crap by the dozens a day, and I'd like to see pouet.net's database bloat because of demos instead ;)

On pouet, musics are for Demos, that's all.

oh god music on pouet no :(
The idea of a site for rating music in pouet style is good though (because there is SO much crap out there, its impossible to find the good stuff).. but do it elsewhere:)

well IF you had a music section on pouet, to avoid getting the 99% crap thats out there, u could have a couple of moderators pre-scanning the tune submissions before uploading it to pouet.
however to me this sounds like ALOT of work and is probably totaly unrealistic. Anyway, who the hell in their right mind is gonna want 2 volunteer to listen to 100 mods a day, most of which sound like a drowning cat being strangled :D
But i agree with Seffren, rating music pouet style would be cool, after all there are alot of musicians on pouet (like me) aswell as coders etc..

i'd recommend "popuet.net" for music division. Music here will ruin the whole idea of pouet.net
keep the music away from pouet please. pouet is for demos, not standalone music or graphics. :)

There is a lot of music disks>don't need a music section! If you want only music>Chiptune.com or Modarchive.com..

doesn't www.modarchive.com do all the job??? It has thousands of modules, and there are many many excellect pieces there.

one *could* add a download link for the soundtrack of each demo to the prod sheet though. or rather a link to the nectarine site where this track is online, commented and rated.

badsector, the majority of the tunes in modarchive suck donkey dicks

robotriot's got a good point with link to the soundtrack.

a related idea would be to have a link to the divx version of demos. for example, links to amidemos for certain amiga demos.
