1:10 minutes for 2004... just finished dinner, waiting for partying.

What's the tradition to do at midnight in different countries?

Here in Spain, we wait for the bell gongs (on TV) then we eat one grape for each gong... that's called "the 12 lucky grapes"... what's other countries tradition?

Happy new year everyone :)

Merry Christmas!!
My tradition is to spend 24 hours partying online with my friends in different countries who show up. And those that don't, well, that's fine too, I party anyway. It's safer than driving about to places, especially when you drink like I do (longterm, not drink heavy/crash like many do.)

12 hours into it, not 2004 here yet, happy new year.

In the US we have no real traditions of our own for new years, save get drunk; but many families continue the traditions going back to where they came from. Some of the families do 2 or more traditions mixed, as the families may be, oh, French/Swedish or Irish/Scottish/English/German/Austrian. But that tends to be only the really strong families, the ones who have the balls to be different.

Viva la diffrance (:
Happy new year yall :)

*hugz wade* Dont worry mate. Atleast you dont have to spend tommorow with headache, wooly mouth and a sour throat like most other people :)

The Hungarian tradition is that they play the national anthem everywhere at midnight, or at least sing it, from the first second of the New Year. Then the president of the republic starts some speech, and 10 million people turn their TVs off. :)

Thanks Iblis. :) I did go out in the end, but I only drank softdrinks the whole night so I can wake up with no regrets. :)

But I guess the British New Year tradition involves getting completely drunk, shouting very loudly, making out with lots of strangers, or your friend's girlfriend, starting a fight with somebody (I broke up two tonight and narrowly avoided a third), and then throwing up over a toilet bowl until you fall asleep. Let the good times roll!

jcl: which reminds me that i forgot to open my can of "12 uvitas de la suertes"... ah well... they're good until 2007 so i have a few more newyears to celebrate in finland using spanish traditions ;-)

as for new years traditions.. in finland people usually congregate somewhere outside, drink lots of bubbly wine (or champagne) very quickly, blow they're arms and legs off and then go booze more.... (aaagh! flashbacks from last night of a very drunk little bitchard trying to light fireworks that don't have fuses. its quite amazing that we managed to survive=D)

A real tradition is melting tin and dropping it in a bucket of cold water and then doing fortune-telling from the shapes... various shapes and textures correspond to stuff like "you'll get lots of money / chicks / booze / a good harvest / you die" etc...

I had a very nice and relaxing New Years eve.

It all started while on the phone with Tomppa1 (Tomi Holmberg) while it was a quarter 'til midnight in Helsinki. We chatted a bit about upcoming plans and I got to hear the fireworks in the background and wished him a Hyvää Uutta Vuotta.

Then went out to have dinner with my family, and later celebrated the NY ball drop with a small group of friends. Dick Clark is an android/cyborg, there is no other explanation. Not even "plastic surgery".

Premium vodka, no hang over to speak of. 8-)

New years I got my first line of coke in 2004 year.It was suck bacause some person smeared bad stuffs into it ,so I flew under a table with out knowledge of what happen until someone told me......

When I founded out I kicked ass and make hayrushi karate followinged from win sun heureka and then people went mad and kick me in the ass what hurted much but did not make me care lot.

I have lyed under a table again and when I waked up someone gave me a plastic bag with pattex and made me sniff and I went to the toilet because I had som glue on my shirt what sucked bacause glue is not easy to get off you shirt one time it has been going on it.

Now I sitting here with big nose and smelly shirt AND IT DRIVE ME FUCKANG MAD BOYS BELIEVE IT OR DONT
Dalezy suggested perhaps I call someone local, since I'd been doing the stuff since 00:00 NZ time, and it was 8pm my time still on the last day of 2003, so I did, bailed, went downtown, drank vodka and something bubbly with local friends, saw the fireworks launched around the Space Needle from a hirise apartment downtown and realized I really really really have to get to the Seattle Art Museum which was across the street. And of course I'm not hung over, but I've had a few naps today (:
In Greece, after new year at midnight, it is a custom for people to go out in clubs and drink their socks off. A side effect is that if you happen to be driving during that time you will surely come across _alot_ of hot-blooded (and most probably drunk too) Greek drivers trying to impress girls with their 1337 driving skillz putting everyone else in the area in great danger.

Another custom Greeks have for new year which I find pathetic, is that they usually gather at someone's place and gamble (with cards).

Finally, you may be surprised that Christmas and New Year are _not_ the greatest feasts in Greece, Easter is much more celebrated.

I spent it with my gran and grandad and their neighbours. We played hungry hungry hippos and operation and eat lots of party snacks and drunk lots of babyshams.

At midnight we had to open the door to let the old year out and welcome the new year in. We all shook hands and sung Auld Langsine (?) and watched a video of Cagney and Lacey.
Holy shit! Did pouet finally fix their newsfeed too?

Joy!
