Outline 2009 is a go!

category: general [glöplog]
And while this is a Outline 2009 thread.. I'd like to comment on the BP stuff in here:

nutman: Actually I had decided to cancel Breakpoint in January after that big sponsor decided to drop out of the sponsor contract. I got pushed hard by other organizers, some of whom said they'd take their share to help out, so I considered trying to do organize mission, which we then did, which quickly showed how much support there is inside the scene, which made me decide to do it. So yeah, Breakpoint has been near-dead.

I share your fear about what comes after Breakpoint. Breakpoint replaced Mekka, but would there be a replacement for Breakpoint if it died? We don't have seen any new big international parties growing during the last years - TUM never really became comparable to what The Party once used to be, and the scene-party of ASM has been shrinking constantly.

Personally I also think that the variety of all the various small parties is much more interesting, but imho the scene needs at least 1-2 meetings per year where most people show up - some kind of family meeting.

There currently are no plans whatsoever in regards of BP2010. Personally I'm pretty sure the world will be a different place by then, but depending on how thing evolve, we sure might be able to adapt. BP got only bitten this year because we thought the world economy crisis would not hit us in time, but that it would take a few more months before the big IT players would be hit by it. Especially as we already had closed a deal...

All this being said: Times are changing - as an international community we will be affected - sceners from country A may no longer afford to attend parties in country B etc. Right now oil is still cheap, flights are still cheap, and most sceners are not yet personally affected by the crisis.

So my suggestion is: Come to Breakpoint THIS year, who knows, it might be your last chance. And come to Outline THIS year, who knows, it might be your last chance. And go to every other demoparty you always wanted to visit but haven't come round to. Enjoy what you have right now. At least that's what I'll do.

I do wonder tho, I never left a party without being totally baked from lack of sleep, regardless of there being alcohol and dope present or not. What changed? you mean the beds advertised are there to sleep in? ZOMG what happened to the scene?!

If im baked it is because im old as methusalem and needs atleast 4 hours of sleep every night, or you will see grumpy like it has only been described in sentences that altso contains "ork, troll, satan etc...

Nicely put, Scamp. I can't agree more!

Iblis: Heh, I just wasn't sure what your intentions were since you mentioned it explicitly. Anyway, throw me a mail or something.
And by baked I meant stoned.
(Because I'm probably going to be massively trashed myself aswell).
eebliss, yes they are :-)

that doesn't mean you won't be all screwed up afterwards though, because typically you drink too much and sleep too little, but at least that last part is purely your own choice :-)

you'll easily get your 4 hours though, so you'll be fine :)

Havoc finished fist. It would be nice if you just urled to some other BP thread the next time you feel like dropping some paragraphs about your party, scamp.

That particular piece on nonsense not related to Outline 2009 whatsoever also brings up this other thing: the IRIS trolls were menstruating about Outline's policy to not award prizes to online contestants, aside other feeble attempts to be intelligent. Well bull to that:

1. Outline is a non-profit event to an unlikely degree. All people involved in the organization are volunteers and actually pay the entrance fee like everybody else. That was never a crisis measure, it's a matter of principle.
2. Profit made is funneled into the prizes for the competitions, rewarding the creative people attending Outline first and foremost. How is that even remotely a bad thing?

Also, there's a Facebook event for Outline 2009. Search for it and tell us about you coming and all.

oh come on, after 9 pages of a thread someone about a party writes about another party, even replying to some comments on that party (by some trolls, but ok). and that's bad? on pouet?

i think scamp has a perfectly fine idea about what outline is and what it isn't, and i think his post was entirely in place.

in fact, scamp posted a call to come to outline! what's so wrong with that?

okay, wtf. I've never heard of any party that awards prizes for remote entries...

Remote entries are still good, and I've also seen cases where friends/groupmates picked up the prize for the winner, to give it to them later... although it'd be hard to check that, I guess.

we don't award prizes for remote entries. the outline prize money pot is defined by whatever is left over after all expenses have been paid. this prize money, plus any left over merchandise, is then somehow fairly (by importance of compo, etc) distributed over the *present* prize winners, except maybe some that had to leave early.

for smaller parties like outline this is never a problem; it is typically immediately obvious whether, if someone can't pick up the prize himself, it is because he had to leave early to catch a plane or whether he wasn't there at all and just supported the compo. in the latter case, sending over the 10 euros that were won is usually not worth the effort.

but we have no formal rules on this, and we intend to keep it that way (lest we be called hypocrites if things change for whatever way).

basically, don't expect any prize money anyway and the worst that can happen is that you're positively surprised.

skrebbel: mind you, i didn't try to say scamp's post was "bad" or whatever... i was just trying to express my general emotion that i have read enough about a certain party in bingen in this particular thread.

for the record, i do strongly disagree with the bild zeitung-esque economic and political propaganda that is being put forward as part of the promotional campaign for the aforementioned event, but this is just not the right place to discuss such matters- maybe some day i will post about it elsewhere (when i'm bored enough to write about politics- ie. probably never). for the moment, i prefer to entertain myself with brooding on new and even more insulting photoshops involving a random mixture of maali, kittens, and worlwide conspiracies :-)

havoc: speaking of illicit graphic material, have you decided what to do with that .jpg I DCC'd you a while ago? (one of it's subjects might also be attending Outline this year :D)

It may just be unfortunate semantics, but that call appears pretty much based on a "last chance to see" analogy for BP's unsustainable footprint without corporate sponsorship. That's pretty ...uncalled for.

Considering that Outline doesn't have to panhandle to get things rolling this year (or any year, for that matter), it's a bit of a stretch that the two parties share an equally grim outlook.

Correct me if I am wrong but Outline had a pretty grim outlook every year (apart from last year that is ;)). Anyway, I don't see how this all is related to breakpoint.
The greek atari scene will be there (unless there are some unexpected phenomena) and STOT will be there with a new game this year. Any suggestions?
We are thinking of Goal! The winner is the person that scores the most goals before the game crashes.

I don't undertsand why all of a sudden people see something neagtive in scamp's post in this thread. It wa spot on, true, and I'm sure it wasn't an attempt to hijack this thread to use it as a promotional tool for another party. Come on people!

Threads derail, yeah even on pouet it CAN happen.

I liked what scamp said in this thread and find it impossible to disagree.
In fact, I find it cool that he posted what he said in this thread instead of the BP one, because it was more relevant here. Posting that in another thread just wouldn't have made any sense.

Lighten up people, it is allmost summer for crying out loud!

haohmaru, nope, it moved to the backburner a bit due to the misfortunes i experienced over the last few months.. but hmm, now that you mention it, maybe i'll have to take another look at that piccie ;)

christos: i guess the after party depression put you on the wrong leg most of the years then ;)

numtek, puryx: people are entitled to their opinions, so if you do think the doomsday prophecies apply to outline also, so be it. but once again, i was just trying to express my general emotion that i have read enough about a certain party in bingen in this particular thread...

havoc: dammit - my "word!" was meant towards numteks post about cheering up - why are you searching for the negative in every post here? :)

I want you guys to have a nice party, thus I'm agreeing on getting this thread back to a nice positive vibe!
