The "Whats wrong with my prod" thread

category: general [glöplog]

What the topic says, post your prod and others tell you what to change/enhance next time.
Please refrain from any flaming and be constructive with your critics.

My last prod was this here:
"Classic Gaming Convention Invitation" http://pouet.net/prod.php?which=53060

I am a bit puzzled why it made last place, especially when i look at the calculator demo.
So, whats wrong with it?
Well that one's easy. It's nearly completely impossible to read the text. And on bigscreen, there was no "Press Space" so I guess people, like me, assumed that it switched pages way too quickly to have any chance of reading the text.

Plus, it doesn't do anything interesting at all. It just displays text slides. So does PowerPoint, but better. Sorry :)

It also seems to be way way too big for what it does. And the music isn't too good.

There's nothing 'wrong' with it. It's just terribly conventional and plain. I agree that the calculator thing was horrid though. =)

Well, this thing is 6.5MB big. A chiptune as .ogg file looks like a really stupid idea. The graphics are rather ugly. There are virtually no effects. It doesn't look "oldschool", invitations created 20 years ago looked better than this. The navigation is confusing. The text is barely readable. And finally, well, it's an invitation for the gaming/retro-scene, while the audience that saw and voted for it are far more interested in actually doing something new (including old hardware) instead of just celebrating the past, so you've been rather offtopic with this.

what tomaes said. and you're doing it wrong: the title should be "Random 'What's wrong with my prod' thread"

@Ector:
The dude who made me the music just supplied me with a 12(!) MByte mp3 which i downgraded to 6 MByte of Ogg.

Next years invitation will be a normal demo and not a noter/diskmag style thingy, i can make more that way.
ouch. transcoding. never do that.
By the way, a word on your position: When you are very far from winning, your position in the compo is a lot more volatile than when you are close to winning. Therefore, take your last place with a grain of salt.

Anyway, just keep coding, your next demo will be better :)
