DOSBox Demo Compatibility List

category: general [glöplog]
For those that haven't see it yet, this is a Ojuice-repost. Ignore if you don't care ;-)

DOSBox proved to be very good in playing old demos, which don't work on today's machines or operating systems anymore. On the official DOSBox website, there's only a compatibility list for games - PAiN brings you the official compatibility list for demos.
You can add demos that proved to run well on DOSBox on your own.

if scene.org is down, also pain.scene.org is down. but scene.org is up, so what? :)

It'd be nice if they had a "not working" option too.

i thought about that, but then decided to leave it out since it makes no sense to add not working demos to a compatibility list.. it would just end up in another demo database containing the same not working download links ;-)

i've added another field to the list giving an information on the dosbox version that has been used to test the demo. all previously entered demos were assumed to be tested on the lastest (0.61) version..

if something's not running with the version given there, send me an email or something so that i could correct it (targeting all the people that have already submitted demos).

it's a bit weird that a pc demo not run in full frame on a pc ...

rahow: dosbox emulates a pc. so if your pc sucks and is too slow, you won't get the stuff one-framed (if it was thought to be one framed).. set up an old, real dosbox, that would be more elite anyway. dosbox-emulation is just cool for us lazy old bastards. ;-)

Actually, it would. It would at least discourage people to try a demo that doesn't work anyway. (And encourage people with too much time on their hands to make absolutely sure there isn't some magical setting to make it run after all)

hmhm.. that is right.. i might build it up when i do some additional changes. but in case one of you guys tries to add 'the popular demo' or something I'll kill ya ;-)

I was hoping you'd shift to my way of thinking - and if anything it is a bit more consistant with the way the DOSBox games compatibility list operates.

yeah, pay me 60$ per hour and i do everything you want me to do with the list. guys, just like PAiN itself, the list is free, i do it in my freetime - and if i don't feel like working on it you gotta wait. or you can do something better if you like.
added on the 2004-05-03 09:27:53 by unlock unlock
err.. but yes, i see the problem with the consistency and everything so i might do some changes to the list when i feel like doing it.

unlock: I can fully relate to you.. I do some things for free in my sparetime and people are never content.. when you are doing something for about 1 year or so, people get used to it and want more and more..
Internet shouldn't be free.. a good paysystem would be cool.. and is inevident for future cool websites and services..

the best way to avoid headaches is to not ask for ideas. :) i spent a lot of time creating demodulate, but rarely touch it anymore except for the occasional update. remember, if you keep the site as simple as possible, you won't have so many changes to make! don't get angry when people leave suggestions or feedback, but do everything on your own terms and enjoy the result. just don't take the "don't do anything anyone asks for" philosophy that analogue did with pouet.
