Im sure any other person that stumbled across this site innocently and got duped into clicking the moronic threads on the pouet bbs would have done exactly the same as Wade. Personally I think, as dipswitch says, back to the days when some sort of validation is required to get rid of the fucking idiots that are ruining this valuable demoscene resource. If this site is indeed under serveillance for this shit, then bring it on.. and if its blocked then fuckit quite frankly, sort the problem out.

some more constructive ideas:

- limit the number of images per post to ~5..10
- limit the maximum length of a post to ~1024..2048 chars
- limit the maximum number of posts-per-thread-with-no-reply to ~5..10
- limit the number of posts (per user of course) to one every 1..3 minutes, maybe with the exception for the first 3 posts after 1 hour of inactivity

Devistator: DNS blocking is a farce and IMHO, putting an entire community under surveillance is not a good idea at all (potential collateral damage). the time and resources required for that are also better spent elsewhere (i.e. tracking down the real criminals!)

Thanks Devistator, glad you see where I'm coming from. Like Dipswitch says, most of this trouble is caused by 4chan users and people who don't give a damn about the scene or demos and it's really sad that they could ruin things for everyone who has invested a lot of time and love into this site.

You should ask the question WHY this is. I hang out on many a messageboard and only Pouet is as retarded as 4chan..

How about limiting people's use of the forum based on their activity elsewhere on the site? There's no real reason anyone's "bbs topics opened" should be allowed to exceed their "latest 1st comments" (in ATH500's case, 29 vs. 19).

Question is, does this improve the forum quality or decrease the prod page quality? People wanting to open threads noone gives a fuck about would just spam the prod pages with senseless crap. And since those pages are the "core" of pouet, I'd be careful here.

Having more rules doesn't stop assholes. It just turns the game into "how can I achieve maximum asshole-ness while still staying within the rules of the forum", closely followed by "you can't ban me, I was following the rules".

How about having "don't be a cunt" as a rule then? Would be pretty hard to be a cunt without breaking that. I find the mods sensible enough to not go over the top with enforcing this rule.

And no, this wouldn't compromise anyone's freedom of speech, or freedom of anything really, since this isn't the broad society. No one is entitled to use Pouet. This is a forum, and the use of any forum should be a privilege and not a right.

i think the "dont be a cunt" rule already applies on pouet, yet, the rule can only be put to practice in a reactive manner (thus gargaj deleting stuff or banning users after violating that rule) and not pro-active which apparently is what some people want but is pretty unfeasible cos there are always ways to work around it.
