I directly painted over the image in the second post which is why it has the same proportions. However I didn't make it wth filters. So yah, I'm not a graphician and rely on photos heavily. Argue it to the end of days for all I care. So... whatever.
Oh, and I've deleted it from OJuice. Sorry to bother you.
oh and omg I am newbie. Suck my big newbie pixel.
phoenix, copies and retouches are still two different things (and i hoped even wain would have realized that .. sigh)

What else is illustration than seeing and copying what you see? Sure, add some dragons and shit just to make it look original, hiding the truth is so much better. Do you really believe that your graphics gods don't use references? Think again. I'm not defending the level this copy is done at, it's way too simple and poorly executed for my taste, but this is by no means nothing else than a non-nocopy-pic. You know, thats how one gets better at doing stuff. First imitate, THEN innovate. Or else you techique will be shit.

Xenusion: I have a lot of admiration for you and your work. Your motifs are original and they are produced with great style and detail. If you can truly back up what you say, and you paint 100% from your mind without looking at any kind of reference, then full credit to you.

Personally, I’m not too bothered these days. Clearly the era of traditional graphics and pure mouse painting is passing by, and I don’t believe any one who uses computers, graphics software and tablets can claim they’re taking on all the challenges of a “real artist” so I don’t see much point in trying to be one.

As for any noob being able to copy a photo. We all know that’s not true or there would be a lot more people doing it.

Kusma: I agree. :)

Kusma: Ofcourse we learn by imitating others. It would be really hard to start from scratch without any references. Even coders do this to learn new effects ( as in "how did they do that? Lets try it myself!" ) or others cut'n'paste NeHe tutorials ;-) . If everybody started adding their copycat effects, pictures and songs the scene would be a really boring place!
Ok, not every production is innovative but atleast the majority makes changes so that things look a little more personal.
In other words: I agree with what you said! :-D

kusma: well read xenusion article at pain. you can
use refences, i dont know how many people remember for example what sperm whale looks like.

anyways pure copies sucks.

wade: do you really think that all artists back in early
90's did just copy pictures. game graphics are good
example of it. id rather nowdays look graphics from
guys like henk nieborg than boring boris vallejo copy
by made. anyways.. just my two cents
