LGA 1366 vs LGA 1156

category: code [glöplog]

Which is better?
I heard a lot of things (which I'd like to know if they are true)
So here we go, I heard...
- LGA 1156 is getting replaced in Q1 2011 while LGA 1366 will still receive new CPUs
- i9 will be LGA 1366, however it will REQUIRE a new chipset (X68 I've been told) therefore making it wiser to buy an LGA 1156 NOW, and a LGA 1366 later
- 1366 has an upgrade route, 1156 does not
- 1156 is newer, therefore it will be supported longer, 1366 will be replaced before.

Thanks, if any of you have any knowledge about these, with source preferably as I've heard many things that did not make sense.

I've heard LBA 2 is nice, but I've only played the demo.

@xernobyl, it is rather nice, and certainly starts up friendlier and easier than LBA 1. It gets progressively more challenging though and expands the established world quite a lot.

Here is some more food for thought:

- Noone can guarantee that Intel will not deprecate any chipset sooner or later than it's expected.
- Generally Intel chipsets change faster than fashion trends. AMD chipsets change less often, but still quite often.
- What chipset does your current computer have and are there any CPU's availabe for it? (Hint: this reflects if your older choice was a "safe upgrade path" and if it really made any difference.)

Personally, I would just buy what is faster/cheaper.

I currently have an i7 920 D0, was simply arguing with an IT that usually knows what he's talking about. I just found it weird.

I also have an I7 920 D0, with a HD4870X2, 12gb of RAM and it has been perfect so far.
Whaou, people talking of LBA1 and 2... impressed :)

did you OC DemoCoding? I'm at 4.2Ghz with a 5870, and wtf are you doing with 12GB of RAM? 6 is more than enough.

my solution is to wait until i9 is out and then buy a killer machine (including high-end graphics card and ssd :D )
