1993 was still ok, seems so. But hey. Its 2010, if you want to be competitive, you have to squash it atleast to -9db in some music.. :(

blame the CD players for cars and the mp3 players? many (most) people listen to music in the noisy car or in the metro/bus, so better make the mzk loud or...

IQ: SELL CD AND MP3 PLAYERS WITH PEAK LIMITERS BUTTONS JUST AS SOME WALKMANS HAD EXTRA BASS BOOST. DONT RAPE THE MUSIC FOR THE SAKE OF EVERYONE BEING ABLE TO PLAY IT LOUD ON THEIR CRAPPY SOUND SYSTEMS.

Metallica fans complained about the last album being too loud.
Iron Maiden decided to release an album which was not over compressed.

Times are changing.
MAYBE WE NEED DECOMPRESSORS TO DESHITTIFY THE MUSIC?

knl: last metallica album was so horribly mastered it only could sound good on a PA system.. I got pretty good listening stuff here back home and it sounded horrible

totally worthless... lucky me I love old rock music so I still have plenty of good songs to listen to.

ps, no need to convince me, I was speaking for the average Joe who listens to music in the car/bus and therefore cannot tell the difference between a 48 bit 96khz raw record, a regular mp3 and even a "please wait"-tune thru the 4 khz telephone line. I guess the loudness trend is motivated by this scenario? Was a theory.

WHAT'S FUNNY IS THAT CURRENT VINYL RECORDS DO SOUND BETTER THAN THEIR CD COUNTERPARTS BECAUSE YOU'VE GOT TO BE WAY MORE CAREFUL WHEN MASTERING TO VINYL!

BRING BACK THE VINYL!

some of the younger listeners unlearned to listen stuf the right way. louder & louder is not the way music should be. if you use too much compression at last you have a colflow signal :) And often tracks sounds like that.

and i think you can hear, if this track sounds nice &clear or not.
if you use the right dynamic range you can listen to the tracks. the track sounds good, with nice energie, and warm.

if there is too much limiting & compression or stuff like that the track sounds unnatural &
pains in your ears, also if you not use the max of your volumeControl.
