Future demo festivals: kill the "original release" rule

category: general [glöplog]
sorry, but 'NEW IDEA' is not always a 'BETTER IDEA'. there is a huge difference there, and just because we are defending a certaing rule which is 'OLD' doesn't necessarilly mean we are simply conservative... maybe in a totalitarian society (if you already decided there is no other way than to submit), but if you really read some of the posts here instead of your own, you could have found some really solid arguments...

one other important thing about the subject, that nowone took into account, is that that same film festivals also have a serious problems keeping their closed structure in todays world - this is something i've been even involved at academic level debates - and i can only say that THEY have a lot to learn from demoscene, not vice versa...

Apparently I'm a liberal now, arguing with conservatives. A man with new ideas is of course, always a terrorist at worst, a disturber of peace at best.

No you are not, and most people here are open minded as well. But your proposal was rejected (aka BB Image). Now leave and go where you think you belong to...

Even if allowed, re-submitting is not a dominant strategy.

I can demonstrate that re-submitting a prod in consecutive parties would lead voters of competing prods to be dishonnest and the team behind that prod to shoot in its foots.

Imagine in the 4k category "elevated" being re-submitted again and again. Consistent voters (those who already ranked it first) will have to rank it first again until a better 4k pops up onto the scene, which may take months or years, right? But voters are like you and me, they can be dishonnest if necessary.

Voters from prods competing with "elevated" will therefore have to be dishonnest and rank "elevated" low, just to have a chance to have their own 4k winning. In fact, I believe that tbc and rgba themselves would not want to have their prod re-submitted to avoir cannibalizing their other entries.

This is the rationale for why even if they were allowed to re-submit "elevated", they would not do so.
