ASSEMBLY Summer 2010

category: parties [glöplog]
Cross-posted from the ASSEMBLY mailing list.

I'm proud to announce that we are organizing the 19th ASSEMBLY this August, from 5th to 8th of August at Hartwall Areena, in Helsinki, Finland. I feel proud because even after all this years we continue to organize a great party where demos take the center stage.

We continue to put our money where our mouth is. The total prize pool for all competitions at ASSEMBLY Summer 2010 exceeds €40 000. All winners will receive 100% cash prizes, e.g., the demo compo winner will go home with €7000 and participate also in the Live2011 finals for a shot of another €20 000.

Big prizes doesn't equal a good party. That's why we continue to throw a lot of effort into smooth organizing, cool program with concerts and parties and standout seminars.

Speaking of which, we are looking for speakers to the ARTtech seminars. We've already confirmed several very interesting speakers and want you to join them. Email me if you are interested!

Compo rules have not yet been finalized. However, there won't huge changes from last year so you can work on your production based on last year's rules available here:

We'll finalize rules during May. If you have suggestions, please shoot them over to compos2010@assembly.org

Oldskool tickets will be offered at 50% discount like in previous years. Ticket sales starts on 16th of May.

This is going to be a kick ass year and I know that several top teams are working on their compo entries. Join them and come to ASM for the best party of the summer 2010!

CU at ASM!

I am just hoping ASD will win. But you never know what happens it's the demoscene afterall !

My readers shouldn't get the wrong idea. The blog is not about winning compos (I think I don't even mention whether the demo is for Assembly, is it really?), but about technology/production. The stupid label of winnerdemo is a burden nobody wants so leave me out of this.

Oh boy.. never looked at it that way.. sorry..

In anyway.. I hope this years Assembly will give another boast to the scene! cheers!

Gasman =). Well, we've at least managed to convince our sponsors to part with real money instead of tons of hardware like back then. Makes things a lot easier for everybody.

Time to make a GBA demo.
i've wondered for a while now: why "oldschool" tickets? can I get those too if i make pc demos? if so, what's with the name? :-)

cos "non-gamerlamer" ticket bounced at the marketing department!
same goes for "only-here-for-the-7000eur" ticket \o/

this is wonderful idea to raise the prizes to this level. this *will* encourage many people to do something nice. what wrong with it? imho - nothing. we will have more demos, hopefully.

The logic (?) behind the name was "ticket for the types of people who went to the first ASMs" i.e. oldschool.

It could be as well as be called a demoscene ticket, but somehow that just didn't feel as cool back then. Now I guess it just inertia keeping the name. I'll get off my lazy bum someday and change it =).

I wonder if the big prize money will encourage more groups from the poorer countries? That could be cool if so, and €7k is a lot more motivation for somebody from a country where the average salary is €10k and there's few high paid coding jobs, compared to somebody from a country where it's €30k and most sceners have a job that pays much more.

still 7k is an attractive lure

Oh yeah. I'm just saying in one country it's a 1-week luxury holiday sized lure, and in another country it's a house sized lure. Not all lures are made equal :)

hello from Ukraine, Western Europe. this is an outstanding country with average salary of €2200 PER YEAR (for ppl who work for government and not for private companies it's €1100). so an average person here would need to work more than 3 (or 6) years (without any spendings) to save such amount of money. i don't think that there is any other country in Europe with worse state of things...

so yeah, that's a nice prize. if i tell people here about it, u can definitely account for several more millions Assembly participants :]
